Red Robins Bobbing 2024-9 (Terrible .....)

May 11th, 2024

It was a disastrous start to May for the Robins as they crashed to nine defeats in their first 10 games of the Month. More frustratingly six of the defeats were by the single run margin. The Gamblers comfortably won the rubber game of their series in Brooklyn before Robins headed out on the road again. The Sluggers won the first three games of their match-up in Louisville all by a single run, Silas Thompson getting tagged for walk-off losses in the bottom of the tenth and bottom of the ninth. The final game of the series saw Robin's first win of the month after they put five runs on the. board in the top of the first and sealed a 12-4 win with three more in both the eighth & ninth. JLA leaders Halifax then swept Brooklyn in three although Robins thought they had a win in the middle game when they took the lead 3-2 in the top of the 13th but Hawks plated two in the bottom half of the innings to dash their hopes. Even a return home to face Hawaii didn't bring a change of fortune as Robins lost the first two games by the score of 1-2. Brooklyn have now won just five of their 20 games on the road, just four of their 15 one-run games and not a single one of their three extra-innings games, they trail Halifax by 8 1/2 games and could find it difficult to extend their post season streak.

Victor Talboom led the team in this period with two homers and six RBI and fresh off the DL Bob Brandon hit .462/.481/.615 as well as stealing two bases in three attempts. Larry Petty hit his first homer of 2024 in the win over Louisville but Jose Escarceja went off the boil with a 4-32 streak. Brian Whitten hit a homer and five RBI but his average was down to .250.

Fernando Moran picked up his first loss of the season in a 2-1 defeat in Louisville while Salvador Barron was involved in two one-run defeats but escaped being responsible for either loss, he only gave up three runs, struckout 19 and walked just one. Newly acquired Len Caldwell had a shaky start giving up four runs in a third of an innings against ATC and a further two runs in Halifax without getting anyone out. Joey Budding also continued his slump as he lost his fourth game of the season.
