I don't understand this at all. He must love Philadelphia to take a pay cut and return to the team that traded him away for a different pitcher.

Or he just pulled a LeBron James without his own TV show.ryankcollins wrote:I don't understand this at all. He must love Philadelphia to take a pay cut and return to the team that traded him away for a different pitcher.

That rotation is sick. I would love to have Roy Oswalt as my fourth starter.

Well, let's see if all this "Grienke is the runner-up prize" talk still holds true, or if the Royals really have any interest in getting rid of him.
Re: Cliff Lee is killing me!!!!
I think the Rangers will make a push for Grienke or Garza they need a top of the rotation starter but shouldnt feel the need to give up too much for them as the Angels, A's and Mariners arent exactly looking like they're going to overtake the Rangers anytime soon.

One huge thing in the Royal's favor is that unless CC opts out of his contract there are zero front-line starters hitting free agency the next two seasons. Two front-line, near major league ready, prospects and two additional support prospects is a huge asking price, but I can't blame Dayton. Along with Garza, he is dangling an available Ace, in my opinion teams will posture but in the end someone will ante up.

Re: Cliff Lee is killing me!!!!
Story seems to be twofold. Lee apparently really liked it when he was in Philly and didn't want to leave. Also, they have the best children's hospital in the country, and his son is in remission right now.
Personally, I think it is a great story. He left a ton of money on the table, knowing he was unlikely to get similar money when this contract is over, because it was best for his family. Quality of life choice over a financial choice. What a concept.

Re: Cliff Lee is killing me!!!!
I don't get the LeBron comparisons. Didn't he just go back to the team that dealt for him in the first place? To a city he liked, to a place he never wanted to leave? Doesn't this - other than the money, which wasn't why LeBron left - make him the anti-Lebron? Isn't this a show of unusual loyalty, not disloyalty?
