Valencia Stars Report: Off Season #1

Post by leejay56 » Wed Jul 30, 2014 9:45 pm

The Stars with only 4.5 M to spend went after a few offensive players that hopefully give the offense a boost....Besides the two signing it was slow off season for the Stars...

The Stars first signed utility guy Ludovic Evangelista to a 3 year deal with year three a team option...Evangelista can fill in at many postions and will DH to start the seasons vs Right hand pitchers....The Stars like that Evangelista has a very good eye for getting on base as he has a career .289 batting average, .364 OBP....Evangelista is 31 and for at least two years can help the STARS out....

The STARS saw Birmingham Bandits release Iván Silva and decided to offer him a 4 year deal but the 4 year is a team option...So Silva signed and has allot to prove to himself and everyone that he can contribute to the Stars offence..Silva is a career .281 and like Evangelista his career OBP is .378...Silva is not really a power guy, as the Stars look to get 10-12 homers but if he can get some key hits and get on base he could help win some games...

Don't usually see Valencia too active in the free agent market, but these two guys are perfect for the Stars. High OBP guys to add to an OBP focused lineup. Nice adds!

Glad to see you grab Silva. Should be a productive player for you.

Love these high OBP adds... One thing I've learned though over the past few years, a team better have some guys to get some hits behind them or you still won't score runs.

That's true. I learned that lesson the hard way twice. It's actually the reason I traded for Ross White once upon a time, then Lucio Vazquez more recently.
