Still wanting to do a podcast....
Still wanting to do a podcast....
("We have the technology.")
I am just not sure how to record someone else than me.
I like the plug in that let's you chat via gmail. I find the audio quality sometimes better than skype. Then there is the Google hangouts.
I heard that one used to be able to record incoming calls using Google Chat, but I am not sure if that is still functional. And the call had to be incoming. And I think Skype lets you record calls. I dunno. I do have a free program on my other computer that records skype calls, so all I have to do is find out what that program is--or install it on this computer. But that would cover only one guest.
For a podcast, all we need is a host (person), a guest or two, some interesting topics, and maybe a GM interview--all in 10-15 minutes! Any longer than that, and I say move on to a second podcast. I can definitely host. if anyone wants to volunteer to be a guest. Or come up with topic idears.
I can, theoretically, record it all, mix it on Audacity or Studio Pro.
I'm talking about voice-only podcasts, not video. And the phone calls and interviews don't have to be live; that way people don't have to be all nervous and we can do an extra take if necessary and just mix it into the podcast.
Ideas? Knowledge?
I say we start with GM interviews, GM plans for their teams, and maybe the draft or ...

Sign me up for co-host, guest, whatever. I'm sure Skype would work fine - one could just call you while you're recording via 3rd party, no?

A concern is that the audio quality of the person on the phone would not be that great if it is just recorded by the host's mic. It's better to have something dedicated to taping the call.agrudez wrote:Sign me up for co-host, guest, whatever. EDIT: or I guess that is what you meant by recording 3rd party. DOH!

This is what prevented us from doing it way back in the day- simple know how. I'm sure there's an easy enough way to do it, does anyone know how?

I'm pretty sure it will work with Google Hangout (audio, no video) and the program I have that records computer audio.recte44 wrote:This is what prevented us from doing it way back in the day- simple know how. I'm sure there's an easy enough way to do it, does anyone know how?
That's a great idea!felipe wrote:I sound terrible...cringe every time I hear myself...
Round table discus of draft would be cool...
And everybody hates their own voice, until you realize that yours is no better or worse than anyone else's.

Not ignoring you here. Most anybody interested in helping out, or being on the "show" is welcome - - including prospective GMs.jpoppe0219 wrote:This sounds pretty damn interesting

Re: Still wanting to do a podcast....
okay, so I've retrieved my software that records skype calls, with pristine sound of both people. As long as each person's connection to skype (ie microphone) is decent. so we could start doing 1 on 1 Podcasts whenever.
Still researching how to tape conference calls or roundtable discussions. Several leads and tools on this. I already noted that Google hangout might do it. If we had volunteer testers...

Re: Still wanting to do a podcast....
Sure, you're up, or you're on. Below is a list of questions that can do what you will with (that is, you can jot down notes on how you would answer these questions in an actual podcast. In other words, the more prep the better an actual podcast. And don't worry about stops and starts, as I can edit the recording. In fact, we could do a second take of any Q&A exchange that we feel needs one.kestu wrote:I could be interested in being a guest at some point.
I'm listing the Questions here, so other GMs (and prospective GMs) can see what is involved. They would be similar to the Questions of the "Champ Kind" GM interviews that TimB did here (and I think in your other league as well). TimB got only about 3-4 volunteers for written Champ Kind interviews. And folks might be need even more prompting for a podcast, which is why I am jumping on your willingness to volunteer.
So, don't answer here, but think or what you'd like to say in a podcast, in response to such questions, and then jot down hints or notes, so you don't forget what you would want to say in the actual podcast interview:
1. so, "ketsu," what may I call you during this podcast (supply your real name, or an alias. Note Al Hoot is an alias). Where part of the country are you from? What's going up up there, anything interesting newswise or in the sports world?
2. What's your background in OOTP. Briefly, how long you've been playing. Other leagues you are in. . What other hobbies do you have? This is basic info, not an extensive part of the podcast.
3. Now, you took over a team that has had a pretty rotten record the past few years. What were your initial impressions about your team and what you would have to do to make it competitive. What have you done so far to implement those ideas. Do you have further plans? What players stood out to you as need-to-be-kept, need-to-be-promoted, need-to-be-discarded? How has fan reaction been to your changes? What are your goals for the team? Play average ball, stay competitive, win it all within x years?
4. What are your thoughts on this year's performance? better or worse than you expected? Who have been your key players this year? Surprise players? Players not living up to expectation, or doing more than expected?
5. Trades and injury news.
6 prospect/farm system highlights (brief)
7. draft news
7 anything else you'd like to share, or highlight something we've mentioned.
NOTE: a good podcast should be 20-25 minutes, so we may need to practice and condense your answers. Let neither of us ramble that much, although interesting tangents allowed.... Don't have to memorize any answers, just formulate what you might say, and then you'll be ready. And I could throw some zingers at you, like if you could make one change to the league, what would that be? But this is only if we have time....
PM me when you have your basic answers ready to go. I'll PM you my skype id.
