09.01: Brauers' Midseason Recap

Post by agrudez » Sun Mar 10, 2013 1:20 am

Thanks to a solid defense (4th in efficiency with .673) and a consistently strong rotation (2nd in ERA with 4.34) the Brauers sit 7.5 games back of their division lead and at .500 thanks to giving up the 2nd least amount of runs in the EBA (358- only 4.59/game). Offensively they have managed to cross the plate 394 times (good for 4th in the league) despite anemic team power (7th in HRs with 45) and mediocre ability to reach base (.277 AVG and .346 OBP good for 5th in the league in both).

The big bats in Munchen’s lineup are both long time vets in the twilights of their careers (each at 37 years old). The first is John Johnston, the former 10 year MBBA vet, currently sporting an .887 OPS. The second is Simon Ceasar with a .818 OPS. The latter, despite being an elite EBA hitter for most of the last decade, never really found a niche across the Atlantic in the MBBA – even despite putting in a solid .824 OPS campaign in ’07 with Baltimore.

Though the Munchen rotation doesn’t sport any household names in the EBA, they are solid and consistent from top to bottom, with not a single one of them currently holding a > 4.5 ERA. With a 3.47 FIP, fireballer Charlie Walker would be the closest thing that this pitch by committee rotation would call an ace, though. In the ‘pen, the Brauers have been lucky to have thus far received elite play by two young, up and coming live arms in Iestyn Pilgrim and Antonio Benitez, currently sitting with a 3.04 and 2.17 FIP respectively.
