Hawaii starter Daniel Thornton kicked the series and game off with five innings of effective pitching. He allowed a run on three hits and a walk while fanning seven batters in just 71 pitches. The bullpen followed by allowing two runs over four innings with Ordonez picking up his 1st save.
SS Carlos Schumann was 2 for 4 with a double (14), two stolen bases (18), two RBI and scored a run. Lorenzo Holloway was 2 for 4 with an RBI and scored a run.

The next Hawaii “starter” was long time Tropic Semih Gurani. Gurani tossed 3.2 scoreless innings allowing just four hits, walked one and struck out three batters in a no decision. Cale Cote followed Gurani with 1.1 clean innings with a K to earn the win and improve to 4-4. Bob Westbrooks earned his 9th save getting the final two outs of the game.
Rookie Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez hit his 29th homer of the season with a solo homer off Kernels starter Raul Castaneda in the 1st inning. Lorenzo Holloway crushed a fastball in the 7th inning for a two-run homer (8) and was 3 for 4 on the day with two ribbies and scored two runs.

Gheorghe Sollomovici made his 1st appearance of the season making a start for the Tropics against the Kernels. He pitched three innings giving up three hits, walked three and struck out one in a no decision. Ricardo Sanchez earned the win after allowing a run on two hits with a K in 1.1 innings of work. Utkan Gocek picked up his 10th save getting the final two outs.
At the plate, the Trops offense hit three homers with solo shots by Jose Ordonez and Vicente Martinez and a two-run homer by Armando Medina. Medina was 1 for 5, Ordonez was 2 for 5 and Martinez was 2 for 4 with a walk. Carlos Sanchez was 2 for 4 with a double (26) and two RBI. Vincente Mendez was 3 for 5 with two stolen bases (27) and scored two runs.

The Trops pitching staff and offense put it all together in the series finale to earn the sweep in Des Moines. Vicente Martinez hit two homers (32) with a two-run homer in the 4th and a solo in the 9th. Lorenzo Holloway was 3 for 5 with two ribbies.
On the mound, Martin ‘Lumps’ Garcia threw 63 pitches in 4.2 innings allowing just three hits, walked two and fanned three in a no decision. Jose Valle pitched two scoreless innings for his 4th win as he walked one and fanned four.
The Trops sweep the four-game series.
