The Hawaii Tropics and Yellow Springs Nine played a 21-inning marathon that ended with a Hawaii offensive outburst. The Trops scored seven runs on seven hits in the top of the 21st to take Game 1 from the Nine. The only run that was needed was a lead off solo homer (8) off the bat of Armando Medina that put the Trops up for good. Hawaii 3B Jorge Dodd had a big day at the plate going 5 for 10 with two homers (14), scored four runs and drove in three.
On the mound, Trops reliever Utkan Gocek earned the win with three scoreless innings of work when the team needed it. He gave up a hit, walked one and struck out three in his 4th win of the season. Martin ‘Lumps’ Garcia made the start for Hawaii allowing a run on two hits and four walks. He fanned six batters in 4.1 innings in the no decision.
The Trops and Nine used 10 pitchers each and 6 of those pitchers threw 3+ innings. The bullpens are taxed for the rest of the series which will make it interesting to say the least.

The Nine pitching staff keeps the Hawaii offense off the basepaths and in the ballpark to eke out another win. The Trops did manage three runs on eight hits but drew just three walks and struck out six times. Rookie DH Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez had a pinch-hit solo blast for his 25th of the season.
Tropis starter Slobodan Omeragic was sharp for Hawaii allowing two runs on four hits and a couple of walks in five innings. He struck out three in the no decision, but it doesn’t look good for the veteran starter to remain on the team. Alex Garcia took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of relief to fall to 4-3.
