Ping: Voting Idiots

Post by ronzonie7 » Fri Jun 11, 2010 7:17 am

There is no way Mike Clarke and his 115 games played this season was more valuable than Aaron Hayes. I'm just sayin'.

This!

I got one right! At least according to Ron.

I was almost suckered in by Clarke too but Hayes had an incredible year at a pretty weak position in the league.

Clarke stunk in the OF, too...5 errors in RF in only 40 or so games! One of those cases where the lazy 'pick the highest OPS' doesn't work.

And Allen Izatt being left off of three ballot is equally as silly.

3rd in batting average
2nd in OBP
3rd in slugging
1st in OPS
2nd in VORP
1st in RC
3rd in total bases
2nd in Runs
3rd in RBI
4th in HR
3rd in walks
Played in 160 games on a team that finished with the 2nd best record in the FL.
I voted for him in my top 5 but being a poor fielding 1B hurts him.

I was on my way to start my own gripe, but I'll do it here...

I take that back, 14 votes have been cast, and Sale was on 11 ballots. WTF.

Pennebaker: .313/.361/.580
Sale: .326/.410/.558

Pennebaker: 38 homeruns/121 RBI
Sale: 36 homeruns/111 RBI

Pennebaker: 198 hits
Sale: 198 hits

Pennebaker: 51 BB/121 Ks
Sale: 86 BB/73 Ks

Pennebaker: 51.4 VORP
Sale: 68.0 VORP

Pennebaker leads the voting by a WIDE margin. Sale is actually 3rd in voting.

It hurt him THAT BAD!? His offensive numbers are comparable, if not better than Pennebaker. Sale made only 10 errors while Pennebaker made 4 in the OF. I'll be honest, I don't understand these other defensive ratings like ZR and such. I realize having one in the negative is obviously bad. Pennebaker's ZR added up to +6.5 if you put his CF and RF together while Sale's was -4.5. I still don't think that justifies the difference in voting numbers between the two.

ZR at first base shouldn't be a critical factor. I have no idea how I voted...I'm pretty sure I had Sale on my ballot, but not 1st, for whatever reason.

I'm fine with that. The dude had a .376 average and a higher VORP than both. I can see that being justified. I can't justify Sale being left off of 3 ballots when Pennebaker leads the voting.

Next year can 7teen post who to vote for before the vote so we don't run the risk of brain injury trying to work out the approved candidate
