Veteran Stability Brings Wins
June 16, 2063 For the second time in six days, Napoleon Mellott's bat drove home the winning run tonight. Last time it was a dramatic home run on the first pitch in the bottom of the tenth that sent the Krill home 5-4 victors over Yellow Springs. Tonight it was a 6th-inning single against Louisville that scored the winning and only run of the ballgame. The silent cherry surprise inside was a bases-loaded walk to score an insurance run the night before in Chicago.

Mellott's Rebound Could
Net $MillionsOn the whole, after suffering the slings and arrows from a fanbase that has been somewhat unforgiving at times, Mellott's ship seems to be righting. He's hitting .284 and getting on base at a .369 clip, to go along with seven homers in just under 200 AB. Defensively he's still a shade toward suspect, but he's been pressed into more on-field activity since new arrival Agatone Louganis has been forced to shift to shortstop while Keith Williams recovers from a strained whojiwigitz.
"Napoleon's going great," said manager Kate Fiscus, who is hoping to take the team to their third post-season appearance in five seasons. "He had a foot thing that bothered him for a bit earlier in the year, but now that he's rolling, I think opposing pitchers don't like to see him stepping up to the plate. I love our fans, but sometimes I think it would help if they could see the players under the covers like I do."
The second baseman's contract is up at the end of the season, and insiders say he's expecting a longer-term deal than the Krill seem interested in providing. "The concern here is that at 30 and showing signs of aging, the long-term Bikini infielder could be a considerable risk out into seasons three and four," said Forever Land Sports Network anchor Misty Morgan. "I haven't seen the guy under the covers, but I can add five years of $7M and get thirty-five or more. Those are a lot of clams for a guy who could be on the downside."
Mellott has 127 career homers with Bikini, having broken in with 16 games in 2057.
