2063-008: Talons Single-A Shortstop Keith Hanna Opens Up About Bench Clearing Brawl, 5 Game Suspension [Exclusive]

Hey folks, Rob Powers here on special assignment for the Toledo Daily Insider Picayune Telegram^TM (One of Northwest Ohio's Finest Newspapers^TM). We recently sat down with Toledo Liberty SS Keith Hanna to get his take on the bench clearing brawl that took place during the May 8th game at Charlesborug, and his subsequent 5-game suspension stemming from the incident.

In that game, Toledo had already scored 4 runs in the first and 2 runs in the second off of the Castors' starting pitcher Yan-hao Zhang, beating him up in typical Liberty fashion. Suddenly, the bases were loaded once again, and Charlesbourg elected to bring in a lefthander, Gabriel Arnold, to face Toledo catcher Diego Montoya, a right handed batter who recorded almost 6 WAR last season. Montoya quickly fell behind in the count against the hard throwing Arnold, but then a meaty fastball presented itself to the 6'4" catcher and it was immediately deposited 383 feet away for a grand slam. The home crowd sat in stunned silence, with the only sound to be heard being the cheers and yelps from the Toledo dugout.

Then, Keith Hanna came up to bat.

"Not too hard to figure out what was coming next," Hanna explained. "Guy just got smoked and was feeling the heat. I take one pitch, a strike, and foul off another. And I was thinking, hey, maybe this guy isn't gonna plunk me after all. So I let my guard down a bit and then here it comes, right there on the hip."

"Ok, whatever, take my base. Shit happens, right? But then the guy starts mouthing off. Says I can take it better than my sister took it last night. No lie, that's exactly what the dumbass said. That's when I snapped. That's it, motherfucker, you're gonna get it now."

"So yeah, I charged his ass and pushed him down. Hey, you can talk shit about me all you want, I don't care. But once you bring family into it, I'm gonna fuck you up. By the time I could get in his face and really teach that asshole a lesson, the benches get there and it's just a fracas, you know? Guys everywhere. I couldn't even find Arnold after that, it all happened so fast," Hanna said.

Keith Hanna and Gabriel Arnold were immediately ejected from the game, once order was restored. Later, Charley Pegler League officials handed down 5-game suspensions for the combatants. Hanna was nonplussed by the incident.

"Hey, bush leaguers gonna bush league, you know? Guy's a goddamn bum who will never sniff the big leagues, while my sister has been in the majors for nearly a decade and is already a multimillionaire. So suck on that, clown. They better bench me the next time that team comes to town, because there's gonna be more hell to pay!" Hanna declared. "Maybe I'll bring Jodie down to get a shot at him. She hits harder than I do, I promise you that!" Hanna said.
