Redding told on draft call to head straight to Omaha after being drafted.(6308)

As Kirk Redding's name was announced as the 18th overall pick in the 2063 Brewster Amateur Draft, Redding was on the phone with Omaha GM Justin Niles who notified Redding that the 20-year lefty would be skipping the minor leagues completely and heading straight to Omaha.

"It was a shock" said Redding. "I am just thankful for the opportunity and ready to put in the work to help the team wherever I am needed."

"We knew where we were going when we hit about pick 10 in the draft. We just hoped that we still had that capability when it became out pick. We were surprised when we did. We felt that Kirk was ready to go. He very quickly can become one of our better pitches out of the bullpen." Said Omaha GM Justin Niles.

Rumor has it that Redding was being considered to take over as the teams closer immediately.

Candrata Parmar's 2.20 ERA and 7 saves since taking the position just a few weeks ago quietly put a stop to that. Parmar for what it is worth has a 1.8 ERA in his 5 appearances this month. While it would be an odd move at this time, look for the team to quickly move Redding into that role if Parmar slips up.

For now, Redding appears primed to still have some back-end work as he will step into the setup role giving Rosenblatt a left handed Setup and Closer combo.
