Is this TN "original, owner-created written content" (legitimately written TN)?

Post by JRamirez » Sun Jun 01, 2025 9:29 am

Since the use of AI (Generative Artificial Intelligence) is more and more common in our world, and concerns about its usage in the BBA are reasonable, given that "original, owner-created written content" is the touchstone for our Team News, Player Features, League Features, and all Fiction Writing posted on the forums (and presumably in the Media Gude), WHAT SAY YOU about Jessie's Team News.

Please read, skim, or scan this team news and answer the following. What do you say? Who is responsible for the actual written content of this TN?

KT 63.34 -- How the DMO's decision makers conspired to try to keep Tommy Akers out of Des Moines

The issue, of course, is that sometimes one can tell something has AI in it, and others one cannot. Another problem is that sometimes the use of AI really helps bring out a person's individual creativity, and other times it does not. So much of that is up to the person who uses it, how they use it, and what they are trying to accomplish.

The GB was, at one point, taking a cut at an AI policy. Perhaps we should revisit that.

As a person who makes my "living" selling my copyrighted work, I have a complicated relationship to the use of AI. At the end of the day, though, for use here in the BBA my general view is: (1) Don't be a dick. No one wants to read 1-click AI garbage that you did for the sole purpose of picking up PPT. (2) Do be a Vic. Remember, this is supposed to be fun. (3) Make good faith efforts to have fun making content that enhances the experience of being in the BBA, even if that enhancement is for no one but yourself. (4) I enjoy reading even the most boring TN simply because it gives me a sense of what's going on with your team.

It can be difficult. Now AI can be trained to "pass" AI-checkers and even to humanize AI-generated content. It may come to a never-ending battle between AI and AI-checkers.

Helping to brainstorm is one thing; writing substantial content is another.

I have been thinking about some guidelines for "fair use" in the league and have drafted a short statement.

I read it. It's written by a person. I read over some of Jessie's other team news, notably, and he has an excellent vocabulary and a notable writing style. Barking up the wrong tree, dude.

I mean, honestly, some of the stuff I've written on here could easily have been attributed to AI, but I've never even used the software. Unless you're talking about my actual intelligence which, of course, is absolutely artificial.

It's only recently that I noticed that it's HIS work.

It DID sound like it was written by a person. Well-written, yes, full of character, yes, personal touches, yes.

If it is written entirely or mostly by AI it would be a little bit stomach-turning to me. Really wouldn't make my day.

My philosophy is to make my TN's so stupid, insane, irreverent, and sardonic that no one other than I could have written it. Seems to be working so far.

No one anything to me, or made any accusations. Just interested in the results of the poll.
