News is breaking out of Omaha that there is several Cyclones that won't be returning for the 2063 season. We had a disappointing season last year so we need to take a look at some new guys and fill out our roster with new guys. We have been bringing in a lot of guys that last couple years on short term deals to see if we could find anything in these guys. If we think we have seen enough and we want to move in a new direction we will. If we like what they have done we are working to bring those guys back for another season. Here is some of the guys we expect to leave although these reports are not confirmed.
Expected to leave this offseason is Peter Dean who was brough in last offseason on a 1 year 5.5 million dollar deal. Dean spent most of this season coming out of the pen and finished the season with a 4-1 record with 2 saves and an ERA of 7.06. It would be shocking if Omaha offered an extension with Dean after a subpar last season.
Mathis Gerard has spent the past 9 seasons in Omaha and had a great career. Rumors have been circulating that Omaha would like to see him finish his career in Omaha but Gerard would like to depart and find a contender to sign with. Gerard split time last season between the rotation and the pen and finished the season 5-6 with an ERA of 5.06. Its just hard to imagine Gerard in a Cyclones uniform next season.
Adhyapayana Mehta was brought in last offseason on a minor league deal and spent the whole season on the roster. Mehta started 146 games at 3B last season and struggled offensively and defensively. Its hard to see any situation where he returns to Omaha next season.
Longtime catcher John Stanley who was brought in on a minor league deal last offseason seems to be a candidate looking for a new home. Stanley Stanley was the backup catcher but never could find his footing last season and was underwhelming behind the plate. Stanley is well traveled in the BBA and he appears to be traveling again.
Ownership has seemed to indicate a payroll cut next season so every person that GM Spencer brings back has to be heavily evaluated within the budget restrictions of next season.
