2062.19: Bears' Cubs - Center Field Prospects

I’m gonna shake up my format a little bit to mimic what Ron’s been up to with his “Prospect Watch” series. I still want to assign letter grades but listing some ratings on the screen and limiting myself to a top 5 should make it more readable.

Here is a link to the last time I analyzed my outfield prospects. My best overall prospect plays center field but there isn’t much depth behind him.

Reminder on the scale:
A: star player just by developing to their potential
B: BBA regular just by developing to their potential or star potential but has some risk factors
C: potential is enough to make it to the BBA but beyond that uncertain
D: needs some bumps to have a BBA future or a lot of uncertainty around their potential

#1 Jim Sitton (B+) | Age: 22 | AAA
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
40/655/77/74/78/84/55/6
After 13 games Sitton is taking well enough to AAA by slashing .321/.390/.415. He’s got plus tools in all the areas you look for in a center fielder: rangy in the field and blazing speed on the bases, with the ability to hit for a high average shooting the ball into the gaps. He’s got some durability concerns and still needs to finish developing his AVK rating but Sitton has the excellent intangibles that make him likely to join SFB early in 2063.

#2 Naif Na'Il bin Khalid (C-) | Age: 19 | R
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
20/403/63/53/73/62/62/4
Khalid took a $1.2M signing bonus as an IFA last year and retains enough of his potential to make the list although he’s not hitting in his first year stateside in Kingston (Rookie League). If his tools round out he’ll be a pretty good all-around hitter who doesn’t walk much. Truthfully, he doesn’t have the range necessary to play center field and realistically he’s a bit of a tweener without some bumping. It’s a long road ahead.

#3 Mufid bin Khaled (C-) | Age: 16 | IC
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
20/452/72/72/52/52/62/5
I only rank the very best prospects in the international complex and scouting discovery bin Kahled just makes that cut. His scouting report looks very similar to the confusingly named Khalid one spot up this list. The hit tool and batting eye have slightly more upside, but this kid is 16 with plenty of time left to lump. His defensive skills also make him look like a tweener but we’ll likely wait out another year of development in the IC before he gets his chance to play minor league ball in 2064.

#4 Hollis Lancasterl (D+) | Age: 21 | SA
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
20/404/64/64/64/43/34/5
There isn’t a high ceiling on 2062 7th round pick Lancaster, but he’s close to having the outfield range to comfortably play center field and his BA projects to be league average long-term. Right now he’s still underdeveloped and slashing .258/.303/.386 with a 93 wRC+ in his more aggressive placement at SA. Poor intangibles and a lack of power prevent him from being more of a prospect.

#5 Liang Wan (D+) | Age: 21 | SA
OVR/POTCONBABIPAVKGAPPOWEYE
20/353/53/53/54/53/52/4
It’s been a long, slow road since receiving a $4.75M signing bonus in 2058 for Wan. He’s far along enough developmentally to post positive WARs across all three minor league seasons he’s played so far. The offensive tools are mediocre across the board but he’s got the 9 outfield range you’re looking for in a center fielder.

Sitton has some big upside. He could be a 4+ WAR player.

Looks like you're Sittin pretty in terms of a CF future.

(I'll see myself out.)

He’s got me so anxious filling in those last couple ratings notches.
