2062 - Grades of each deadline deal.
Was bored so did a quick look and grade on all the deadline deals (except my own). This was just for fun and not intended to be me saying im 100% right. It's just my opinion, and not intended as fact.
The Twin Cities River Monsters traded 22-year old CF Manuel Nevada and 18-year old 1B Stephen Skandalis to the Yellow Springs Nine, getting 24-year old minor league 3B Pepe Gonzales in return.
TWC: B
YS9: B
A harmless minor league deal
The Des Moines Kernels traded 16-year old 2B Ricky Fults to the New Orleans Crawdads, getting 31-year old RHP Micah Harrington (retaining 50%) and 28-year old minor league 3B Dwight Pound in return.
DM: A
NO: C-
I don't like 16 year old IFA's in general, and retaining the next three seasons makes me scratch my head a little. Fults could still develop into a world-beater though. Great addition for Des Moines.
The Rocky Mountain Oysters traded 30-year old LF Max Shepperson and 20-year old minor league CF Francisco Rios to the Twin Cities River Monsters, getting 20-year old LF Vince Guin and 21-year old LF Mark Busse in return.
RMO: B+
TWC: A-
Twin Cities getting a decent out-field prospect with Shepperson is solid work, even though I do like the two prospects going to Rocky Mountain.
The Charlotte Flyers traded 20-year old 1B Paul Long, 19-year old RHP Julio Segura, 17-year old 1B Sandor van der Lee, 22-year old 2B Jim Pollard, and 17-year old LF Menderes Nedim to the Jacksonville Zombies, getting 32-year old RHP Bob Anderson in return.
CHA: A
JAC: A-
Anderson has one injury since 57 and is a fantastic pitcher. Solid return for Jacksonville with no $ retained.
The Montreal Blazers traded 19-year old 1B Jose Gros, 20-year old 1B Hilel bin Umayr, 22-year old RHP Valentin Espinoza, and 20-year old LHP Gustavo Brown to the Brooklyn Robins, getting 33-year old RHP Umar Dogar in return.
MTL: C+
BKN: A-
I like the deal short-term for Montreal, but long term it really scares me with that AAV for a 33-year old wrecked pitcher. If it wins them a Monty then who cares. Good on Brooklyn to boost there finances and get some decent prospects.
The Charm City Jimmies traded 20-year old 1B Dean Howard, 22-year old 2B Jesus Llado, 20-year old 3B Alan Hedges, 22-year old RHP Jerry Raymond, 22-year old LF Ricardo Gomez, and 19-year old C Eduardo Gonzalez to the Rocky Mountain Oysters, getting 26-year old SS Lucio Guevara and 30-year old LHP Joe Shaw (retaining 50%) in return.
CCJ: A+
RMO: A
Charm City Got a damn good shortstop with team control and some bullpen help, and Hedges and Gonzalez are two very solid prospects.
The Des Moines Kernels traded 21-year old minor league RHP Felipe Resendez to the Charm City Jimmies, getting 25-year old RHP Alphonse Lease in return.
DM: A-
CCJ: C
I mean at least Charm City got something for someone they probably planned to let go, though I think other's could've been dropped to make room.
The Louisville Sluggers traded 25-year old minor league LF Badrak Owor to the Long Beach Surfers, getting 27-year old RHP Frank Geddes and 19-year old minor league RHP Tanyu Ito in return.
LOU: C
LBC: C
Two bullpen arms for a DH. Eh.
The Mexico City Aztecs traded 21-year old minor league RF Chris Walker to the Rocky Mountain Oysters, getting 21-year old minor league RHP Tony Kaufman in return.
MEX: B-
RMO: B+
On the surface I just like Walker more than Kaufman, but both should be good.

Interesting to look at all of the deals at once.
As for Umar, I got the best possible return for no retention that I could have got.

Harrington (0-3) has not set the world on fire for the Kernels.

Re: 2062 - Grades of each deadline deal.
We wanted to add a starting pitcher but our available trade capital was meager at best. Given our large cap space, Erik suggested that we could offer to take on a "bad" contract in lieu of trading quality prospects. He brought the deal to me, then Brooklyn and I worked out the details. I was probably too generous but I have no regrets.Knucklehead254 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 03, 2025 5:40 pm

As for Dogar's Wrecked status, it scares us too. But the opportunity to get a frontline starting pitcher for the stretch run and the playoffs in return for prospects who had no future with us was sufficient to convince us to make the deal. We have lots of salary cap space with no significant salary increases looming on the horizon.
We are "all in" in hopes of winning the team's first division title since 2046 and our first ever. Failing that, we like having a rotation of Lucio Juarez / Umar Dogar / Luis Gonzalez lined up for the playoffs.

In the Lease deal we needed the cap space and 40 man roster spot. Was looking to deal Parmar, but couldn’t find any takers.
