LHB "Tearing Up" AAA
May 8, 2062 | Long Beach | With rumors on the street saying that the Bikini front office has been striking out at every turn in their quest for a corner outfielder, it appears they have maybe, perhaps, found a part-time DH. The club announced a minor league deal earlier today that sends their AA catcher, and one-time 3rd-round pick, Rahimat Sulayman to the Chicago franchise in return for 20-year-old AAA DH, Al Schuman. Schumann had leapt AA, and is hitting .353/.380/.574 with a pair of homers and 17 RBI with Chicago's Rockford ballclub.

Will 20-year-old
be a savior?"Al has shown he can hit at every level," said assistant GM Monica Green as she discussed the deal. "And he's the kind of guy who makes a great teammate because he holds himself accountable for being the best he can be."
Defensively, the move probably doesn't make senseor at least doesn't suggest that the club's corner outfield quest has been called off. And, at 20 years old, one has to wonder whether the minor league numbers are fools' gold. But the team is in need of a left-handed bat to hold down the primary DH slot, and Green said that Schumann would take a Come Together Door straight to Long Beach where the Krill are slated to start a three-game series with the Surfers.
"I hear they need a bit of offense," Schuman said upon hearing of the deal. "I'll see if I can give them a shot in the arm."
Sulayman, who is clearly a solid prospect with a strong arm behind the plate, was considered available due to expectations that Pedro Jimenez would be around for several more seasons, and that Ivan Quintana would be the likely successor. The club has a few other middle-grade catchers simmering in the system, too. "We hate to see Rahimat move on," Green said, "but you've got to give something to get something. We're optimistic that Al Schumann will be raking with the Krill for a long time."
Initial expectation is that outfielder Marty Barnett will be optioned to Pasco to make room for Schumann.
