BOI: Remove player from payroll
Robert Hanson retired 12/18. He is still showing on my payroll as of 1/1 (and, thus, taking up cap space). Please remove him (no idea why the game didn’t).
He is in DFA

You’re stuck with him thru the season in my experience. Career ender didn’t happen until the offseason. Tough break.

I’d have to agree. I think you just have to eat the contract. Players union wouldn’t have it any other way.

Re: BOI: Remove player from payroll
It's an interesting issue. MLB players get paid their whole salary in this case, but also teams take insurance policies for these situations, which obviously are not in ootp.

Re: BOI: Remove player from payroll
As Ron did, also copying my opinion from discord for whatever it's worth:
I can see both sides of this - on one hand, it's the off-season. On the other hand, any of my injured players count against my cap and who knows if they'll actually just keep getting hurt and not be usable. It's just odd game would do this now and throw it into chaos. I've never seen that before.
I think either makes sense, but this is a game and not real life, so if the Commish wants to find a way to split the baby here (reduce salary by 1/2 as a "insurance settlement" perhaps?), I'd have no problem with that at all. Or any decision, really. However, finding a way to reduce the impact given how random this was wouldn't be a bad idea IMO.

Re: BOI: Remove player from payroll
Wouldn't simply releasing him free up the cap space?

Re: BOI: Remove player from payroll
I can’t afford $10M so the cap space wouldn’t do me any good (and would put me in a hole for at least 2 seasons) and not sure I have to. That’s why I pinged commish.

If the guy gets an injury you still have to pay him. That's how the game works. And he didn't retire according to the game. He will retire in Nov 2062.
It's a risk to sign a mid-thirty year old with fragile injury rating to a four-year contract. It's a risk to sign anyone.
If we're gonna change the rules, I want reimbursement from the "league's insurance fund" for the $10.6mm I payed Steven Clayton last year to sit on his butt with a four-month injury.

Re: BOI: Remove player from payroll
Look at his profile in game and it says “Retired” and the news notice says “No recovery for Spuds Hanson, retires.” I have no problem carrying an injured player all season….I carried Hanson last season. But if he retired then I don’t owe him anything.

Re: BOI: Remove player from payroll
He’s going to retire at the end of the season. It’s how the game handles CEIs. I carried one (albeit a minor league player) all of 2060 on my IL.

I think that's one of those ones that just gets handled however the game handles it.

Re: BOI: Remove player from payroll
His career is over, but he hasn't officially retired. Maybe he'll retire in 9 days, as Stats+ lists him as injured for that many more days...?
Anyway, it's up to Matt, I guess. Let's just remember whatever he decides. But if he doesn't retire in 9 or 10 days, then I say you either keep him or cut him, or trade him to a Behemoth.
It's a very tough luck loss. Actually, I don't have a dog in this fight, just whatever precedent is set, if it hasn't come up before.

I thought about that, too, when I saw he had injury time remaining.JRamirez wrote: ↑Tue Jan 28, 2025 4:10 pmHis career is over, but he hasn't officially retired. Maybe he'll retire in 9 days, as Stats+ lists him as injured for that many more days...?
