Honolulu, Hawaii-

Review of SP-

The Hawaii Pitching Staff had a sub-par season in 2061 as arms that the team was depending on didn’t perform as expected. Injuries wasn’t the excuse for this group but break downs and self-inflicted mistakes.

Barney Lindsey was average making 32 starts and going 9-11 with a 4.16 ERA over 175.1 innings.

Semih Gurani made 33 starts going 8-10 with a 4.82 ERA. Gurani finished the season strong to get his ERA below 5.00.

Niegloslaw Woywitka had a sophomore slump making 32 starts with a 9-11 record and a 4.42 ERA.

Jose Ordonez took a step back in progress as a starter. His HR allowed rate jumped which resulted in a 6.04 ERA over 32 starts while posting a 4-12 record.

Utbah ‘Crawdad Me’ bin Muta has reached a crossroads in his career as he crapped out as a starter. He made 9 starts before being relegated to the bullpen and will now be a target for reliever conversion. He made 9 starts in 32 games with a 6.95 ERA.

Gerardo Rea had been retired to the bullpen after a subpar 2060 season and began 2061 there. After the collapse of ‘Crawdad’, he was given the ball to start again, and he produced. He didn’t eat a ton of innings but made 21 starts and gave his team a better chance in games he started. He finished the season 6-7 with two saves with a 3.81 ERA.

Review of RP-

The Hawaii bullpen was decent but not great as they converted just 39 of 65 Save Opportunities.

Closer/Stopper Utkan Gocek was the workhorse making 82 appearances and pitching 105.2 innings. He was 10-9 with 18 saves in 26 chances with a 3.75 ERA but did give up 1.5 HR/9 which was ugly.

Manny Ortiz made 46 appearances and threw 64.1 innings with a 3.08 ERA.

Troy ‘Teddy Bear’ Reynolds is showing his age but made 53 appearances and pitched 67.2 innings with a 3.19 ERA.

Curt Bott has taken to his role in the bullpen after starting in the minors. He took his conversion in stride while making 29 appearances. He pitched 34.2 innings with a 3.38 ERA. He gave up HR/9 at 1.3 but he will be placed in the devlab to try to fix that issue.

Bill Phillips was up and down all season. He was streaky with 4-5 scoreless inning streaks then implode in a game allowing big innings. He made 58 appearances going 3-5 with 7 saves in 13 opportunities. He had a 4.17 ERA and a 117 ERA+.

“He looked good but also so bad.”, joked Pitching Coach Tony Torres.

Veteran reliever Topan Adjeng put up some innings this season and remained healthy with 81 in 57 appearances with a 4.33 ERA and a 103 ERA+.

Tony Torres said, “Adjeng was throwing trash up there all season but got the job done.”

Juan Martinez pitched his way out of a job and was sent kicking and screaming to AAA Death Valley. He made 38 appearances and pitched 47 innings with the big-league club and posted a disgusting 6.89 ERA. He was told he was going to be sent to AAA, and he filed a rejection through his agent. Trops GM Jim Walker passed him through waivers and sent him down. He did no better in Death Valley and Hawaii will let him walk in free agency.

Harry Edwards was called up to replace Martinez and made 11 appearances and pitched 14 innings. He posted a 4.50 ERA and was at 99 ERA + but this is a small sample size.

“Edwards will get a longer look next season in Hawaii. I like his 7 HRA and hope he can keep the ball in the park.”, said Walker.

Martin ‘Lumps’ Garcia was bad more than he was good. He walked too many batters and that did him in. He needs some time at the devlab before he gets too old and at 25 this may be his last shot to improve. He made 53 appearances and pitched 66.1 innings with an ugly 5.29 ERA.

Gurani seemed to take a step backward this year.

Yep. I expected this performance from him last season coming off his injury.
