Sim #17 (recap) was back and forth. Literally. As usual, Boise couldn't hold a lead together whether it was the bullpen or the offense. The squad managed 4.3 runs/game while allowing 3.6 and that mostly from the bullpen.

SPUDS OF THE SIM - SIM #17

Pitcher
Image
P Juan Guzmán
23 G, 7 GS, 3-2, 2 SV, 5.07 ERA, 65.2 IP, 1.31 WHIP, +0.4
This Sim was all about the starting pitching. Even as he took the loss, Mahad 'Furball' Einan put together a very good start against New Orleans allowing just 2 runs and striking out 5 in 7.2 innings. Testing out a spot in the rotation, recently acquired Tariku Jabiri stifled the Crawdads for just 3 hits and 2 runs over 6.0 IP. And, yes of all yesses, SP Doug Eckhoff got off the snide to turn in a quality start in New Orleans allowing just 2 runs in 6.0 IP. But the undeniable star was regular setup man Guzmán. The lefty had 2 starts in Sim #17 and both were sensational. The better of the two was an 8-inning shutout of New Orleans with him allowing 6 hits and fanning 7. His number came back around at home vs. Montreal where he got no decision but limited the Gamblers to 2 run on 5 hits in 7.0 innings striking out 5.

Batter

3B Bill Kuhn
97 G, 16 2B, 23 HR, 61 RBI, .272/.387/.508, 1 SB, +2.5 WAR
It was slim pickings hunting for a standout batter in Sim #17. CF Bob HIlls had a horrible slash but delivered 4 RBI on 2 doubles. 1B José Montoya registered 2 stolen bases on top of his 3 RBI and one triple. But we'll tag Kuhn and it may be the last time for a while as he's entered a little slump. In fact, he posted a .120/.207/.240 slash in Sim #17 but drove in 6 runs on just one HR.
