Galaxy Gas 2061.20 - Free Agents' Progress Report

With the 2061 season being 34 games in (20% of the season), it is time to take a look at the free agent signings from this past off-season. There were only 4 major signings, but those signings cost Valencia $48.5M in payroll this season.

The first signing was Thomas Turner. So far this season he has gone 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. This puts Thomas on track for a 2.7 WAR this season which isn’t too far from his 3 WAR average from the past couple of seasons. If you take away his dreadful 7-run/1-inning outing against San Fernando, Thomas has had a 2.92 ERA in his other 6 starts.

Luis Gonzalez was the second free agent to be signed. His start has been more fruitful than Turner’s as Luis has gone 5-0 in his 7 starts with an ERA of 2.17 and a WHIP of 0.99. Luis is on pace for a WAR of 5.6 this season.

The third signing, all on the pitching side of things to this point, was Luis Perez. Luis has stepped into the closer role and has garnered 8 saves in 8 chances while putting together a 0.64 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP. His projected WAR at this point is looking to be 1.3 for the season.

The fourth signing and the lone addition on the offensive side via free agency was Zenobius Kazantziakis. Zeno is currently hitting .336 with a .367 on-base percentage while swiping 10 bases. Adding that production to his snazzy fielding, Zeno’s projected WAR is sitting at 4.7.

While each of these additions seem to be marked improvements over their predecessors from the 2060 season, the record is still similar to the last two seasons at 18 wins and 16 losses.

I think Gonzalez is the winner. He’s pitching well in his return to the rotation.

Yeah I was curious how he would do back in the rotation. Killing it.

I wondered that also. The main thing that made me decide to try it with that amount of money was that he has not really started since we went to OOTP25 and he seemed to hold his overall ratings when we switched - although his stuff and movement took a hit. Not sure how that compared to the other pitchers during the switch since I was out the 9 seasons prior.

I just always wonder how relievers last during the dog days of summer, but I will take what I can get before then.
