TN 61.04 Could This Team Have a Chance?.....Naaaahhhhhh!

Post by Chuck V » Tue Nov 12, 2024 6:44 pm

At a game under .500 and a record of 13-14 the Austin Shredders find themselves in a three-way tie for fourth place, just a game out of second place, yet nine games out of first behind the league leading 22-5 Las Vegas Hustlers.
Could this team actually compete? I mean a few breaks here, a few breaks there, they could be in second place! No. They really can’t compete. Being in second place, currently occupied by two teams just a game over .500, Boise and Rocky Mountain, in the Frontier Division is like being the head fry cook at McDonalds. While it’s nice to say you’re in second, it doesn’t really mean anything when first place is well over the horizon.
Why the sudden bleeps and bloops of joy from my PC? Well, the Shredders did have a nice 4-2 sim, dropping two of three to Las Vegas before sweeping the San Antonio Outlaws. The pitching staff, the bane of GM Chuck Valenches’ existence has improved upon last year with Glenn Hargrove finally maturing into a serviceable starter, and the team is drawing even better this year than last. But don’t let that fool you. This team is currently last in hitting and in the bottom three in the league in every category except stolen bases. The pitching has been solid, if unspectacular.

Who was hot? Well, none of the batters for sure. Ray Hoskins bat finally came alive and he is back above .500 like he was last year, but the rest are all struggling. Luckily the pitching, led by Hargrove has kept the bottom from falling out.

What about down on the farm?
Takanobu Komatsu is knocking the cover off the ball for the Odessa Hobos. He is hitting .342 with 8 HR and 24 RBI. He is the #70 prospect in the BBA and is getting close to being ready, but don’t look for him until at July. Takanobu Komatsu e is also hitting well, The Shredders 3rd round pick in 2059, Densmore has eight homers as well while batting .358. There are some big contracts, such as Glenn Fox in front of these two, but if they keep hitting like this they will no doubt be in a Shredders uniform soon.
