Fresh off the victory parade in the streets of Nashville, many questions surrounded the future of the Nashville dynasty. Stars would be departing, prospects taking their places. With a new crop of young players abroad ripe for the picking, the Bluebirds decided to invest in their future, despite already being loaded with the league’s top farm system. In total, the Bluebirds signed seven players, though two players were deemed unable to stay with Nashville in the name of competitive balance. We’ll get to that more in a bit, but let’s take a look at the players that will be staying with Nashville.
LF Cüneyt 'Roomba' Tanju – perhaps the most gifted hitter in the IFA pool. Great contact and immense power. $8.6 million
SS Lau-po Chau – perhaps the best SS in the class. Immense power and ability to stay at SS in the BBA. $8.6 million
3B Franky Pijlswaard – well-rounded 3B with a great arm. $3.2 million
SP Halewijn de Haan – a good four pitch repertoire with good movement and control. Should develop velocity as he matures. $4,206,969
RP Keiran Oeltjen – good stuff and control. $3.2 million
Two others, RF Kenny Peterson and SP Tony Alvarez were signed with bonus funds and their signings were reversed. Instead, they were sent into a lottery pool for competitive balance. Peterson would be awarded to lottery winner, Atlantic City, while Alvarez would go to the lottery runner-up, Hawaii Tropics.
It’s unlikely any IFA prospect fulfills their potential and Nashville would be lucky if even one of these players made it to the BBA, however, all these players are exciting and will be watched closely. Though they may not become Bluebirds through development, they may be useful trade pieces at the trade deadline.
