After all, Eddie has 5 or 6 pitches in his arsenal and they are all rated over 6. He is an extreme groundballer so that should work in the pen with all the slick-fieldng infielders we have.
He presses the button to talk to his receptionist, “Jennifer, please get in touch with Richard Head and have him come into my office. He is the guy we brought in to track all of our personnel and rosters.”
A few moments later, Richard comes into the office. It is the first time that they met face to face even though he had been working for the Valencia organization since October 1st – which has been known in the Valencia organization lately as the first day of off-season.
“Hey Richard, I need you to get in touch with Edguardo Moreno and let him know that we are sending him to some specialized training to get converted from a starter to a reliever,” Greathouse stated.
“My friends call me Dick, he replied. “ Rifling through his papers, Richard/Dick said, “I do not see anyone in the organization by that name.”
“He is on our AAA squad.” Greathouse replied.
“I don’t see his name there.” Richard – he is not a friend at this point – nervously hands all of the papers over to Greathouse.
“Where is he?” Greathouse murmured. After going through the rest of the papers including the Rule 5 picks, he noticed that Edguardo was picked up by the Sacramento Mad Popes in the 4th round of the draft.
“How did he get left off the protected list?” Greathouse asked.
Richard replied, “I farmed out the player/roster documentation to a personal department in Haiti. I guess it got lost in the shuffle.”
“HAITI!!!” Greathouse exclaimed, “You farmed out personnel paperwork to someone in #@*! F&#^( HAITI???”
Fast forward a little over a week, there was a knock at the door. When Greathouse opened the door, Moreno was sitting on the step with a note. It seems that the Mad Popes released him which by rule brings him back to the Valencia fold. The note simply read, "Sacramento is too good to use someone that couldn't even make the Valencia roster last season."
Moreno was swiftly sent to the training and returned in time to go through the last 10 days of spring training. The initial results were pretty intriguing. Three games, 2.1 innings, no walks, no hits, 3 strikeouts.
On the ratings side of the coin, Moreno went from a 45 to a 70 rating with his two remaining pitches being a slider and a circle change both rated at 10. Will this bump last with Moreno moved to the bullpen? We will find out as the 2061 season unfolds.
