Galaxy Gas 2061.03 - Stars Sign Two Hurlers
Last week, a deal was signed with Thomas Turner while this week Luis Gonzalez was added to the Stars’ roster.
Thomas Turner, a 36 year-old signed from Sacramento won 14 games last season with a 3.62 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. Thomas will most likely be starting in the #2 slot of the rotation come opening day. Terms of his contract include $59M over 5 years with the first two years being $13M each and scaling down to $9.6M in the last year of the contract.
Luis Gonzalez pitched with Twin Cities for the last 2 and a half years. The 30 year-old signed a 6 year deal worth $79M. Plans at this point is to move Luis from the bullpen back into the starting rotation and landing in the #3 slot of the rotation.
The starting rotation is shaping up to look like this on opening day:
Juan Garcia – Juan went 12-8 with a 3.70 ERA while fronting the Valencia rotation last season. League scouts have Juan at an overall 70 rating.
Thomas Turner – Thomas went 14-8 with Sacramento while composing an ERA of 3.62. League scouts have Thomas at an overall 65 rating.
Luis Gonzalez – Luis also has an overall rating of 65. He had an ERA of 2.61 as a reliever at Twin Cities but the Valencia brass is hoping that his 10 stamina, extreme groundball tendancies and 4 pitch selection can translate into starting material.
Jonathan Bryant – Jonathan went 13-5 with a 4.04 ERA. His scouting ratings dipped 5 points at the end of last year so the verdict is out on how he will fair this season.
Xavier Vargas/Peter Dean – Spring Training may determine which one will land in the #5 slot. Xavier went 10-13 last season will Peter Dean went 9-9.

Couple of impact arms gives you a lot more talent than you’ve had in the rotation in Valencia.
