The Yellow Springs Nine and starting pitcher Cory McGuire are pleased to announce an extension buying out his final arbitration year and keeping the player signed to the club up through 2066.

McGuire, 26, was acquired by General Manager Rob McMonigal in the Rule 5 draft, becoming one of the most successful players chosen by him via the annual review of players outside of the 40-man rosters of the BBA teams.
After going 3-5 in his debut season of 2055, with a 5.19 ERA, McGuire blossomed in 2056, pitching to a 7-2 record in 15 games (12 starts) with a 3.81 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. His best season was 2058, in which he went 8-11 with a 3.48 in 33 starts with 174 strikeouts and a WAR of 3.7, with all but the wins being career highs. That year, he finished third in the Frick League with a k/9 of 9.30.
For his career, McGuire is 41-41 in 165 games (148 starts), with 688 career strikeouts, career WHIP of 1.25 and career WAR of 10.2.
McGuire's deal is for 6.6 million in 2061, moving up to 7.7 million from 2062 through 2065, with a player option of 7.7 million in 2066.
"We're delighted to have quick and easy negotiations with Cory and his agent," said McMonigal. "I'm a big believer in Cory, even with some injury issues slowing him down the past few years. "From the very start, he's been a leader for this team, whether we've been doing well or bringing up the rear of the Heartland Division. The fans love him and we love him, too. I look forward to when Cory gets to pitch in Yellow Springs with the playoffs on the line."
"I was stunned at how easily we got the deal done," said McGuire. "I thought sure we'd have to negotiate more, but if my agent is to be believed, Mac [McMonigal] basically said "done deal" as soon as we made an offer. Kinda makes me wonder if he's either completely bonkers or I sold myself too low. Oh well, that's a lot of money for a kid from Penn State. My dad's still coaching there. I hope I'm making him proud."
