Jonathan Bryant, the Valencia Brass inked a one- year extension to another starting pitcher, Juan Garcia, in lieu of going to arbitration this off-season. The deal is reportedly worth $2.3M for one year. Reports had that the arbitration could go from $2.3M to $2.9M. The 26 year-old former first round pick held the top spot in the Stars’ rotation throughout the 2060 season.
Juan compiled a 12-8 record this past season with an ERA of 3.70 and a WHIP of 1.20. Juan had 13 out of his 33 starts where he went 6 or more innings giving up 2 or fewer earned runs. Unlike many of the others on the Valencia staff, Juan’s production in September did not fall off as he did not lose a start during the month. On the other hand, Juan only garnered one win over the month while his ERA creeped from 3.64 up to 3.70.
Juan has the highest ratings of any of the Valencia starters with a current/overall rating of 65. His Stuff/Movement/Control of 5/7/7 isn’t quite what the ace pitcher quality looks like but he does typically keep the ball in the park as evidenced by his 16 home runs allowed in his 33 starts that covered 187 innings pitched. He also averaged 5 hits and 2 walks per start over the course of the past season.
Look for Juan to be in the #1 or #2 spot in the rotation depending if the Stars’ front office goes after a big-name arm in the off-season.

If Bryant got even a little nudge in HRA, he and Garcia could be a force together for another 5-8 years.
