2060-13 Playoffs?

Post by Knucklehead254 » Sun Sep 22, 2024 9:38 pm

“Playoffs? Are you joking? I’d be happy if we even hit 70 wins this year.” I said to a reporter at the beginning of the season when I was asked about our teams chances for the year. Yet here we are going into September, already with 71 wins and the final WC spot in our hands.

How the hell did we get here?

Last year basically any player with significant value was sent off to other teams for a bunch of prospects that are already looking more like misses than hits. Four of our starting pitchers, gone. Longtime closer Xuan Ngo, gone. Ángel González and Tony Frost, gone.

I mean we’re last in the entire league in runs scored per usual so what’s happening?

Well, a lot of it goes to our incredible pitching and defence. Go look at the who’s hot list on our Brewster report and you’ll see all 5 starters on there. Dirk Bessi has been the Phil Cole replacement I was looking for last year and new additions Baldez and Clulow Jr are settling in nicely. Rookie Jesús García is just two saves away from 40. The crazy thing is we’ve been here before during the Phil Cole era, yet we were spending $120 million to squeak into the wild card spots (except 2057). How much are we spending now?

$87 million

Our offense is why it’s low as it’s mostly consisting of of players under 28. Greg Clover, Reynaldo Serrano, Javier Vallés, Vance Cooper, Ziya Türkes, Sam Corkum, Leonardo Rodríguez and José Villa. Outside of Corkum they’ve all had pretty decent seasons especially when it comes to hitting in the most pitcher friendly park in the league but they all (outside of Turkes) play solid defense, which is one of my main philosophies.

Do I think we’re gonna have enough gas to get into the dance? Probably not, I can see us sputtering at some point and kill our momentum. But still did anyone have us here in their pre-season prediction? I didn’t, and neither did the commish in his well written write-up (who could blame him, I’d have said the same thing), nor the game itself.

Glad to see that you are taking good care of Stephen. I’ve been very impressed with your performance in 2060.
