2060.06 - Wolves Sign Veteran 1B Ernest McBride to a One-Year, $4.2M Deal

Madison, WI - May 20th, 2060 — In a move to bolster their lineup and fill the veteran void left by the recent injury to Manobu Shimizu, the Madison Wolves have announced the signing of 39-year-old first baseman Ernest McBride to a one-year, $4.2 million contract, as the Wolves look to add leadership and experience to their clubhouse.

McBride, a well-respected veteran with 18 seasons of Brewster Baseball Association (BBA) experience, has enjoyed an illustrious career with several teams, including Brooklyn, Hawaii, Phoenix, and Portland. Over his career, McBride has amassed 2,984 hits, 734 home runs, and 2,062 RBIs, boasting a .295 batting average and an impressive .947 OPS.

Head Coach Chris Myers expressed his excitement about McBride’s return to Madison and emphasized the value he brings to the locker room. “Ernest is a consummate professional and a true leader on and off the field. His experience is invaluable, especially during a season when we’ve faced some adversity with injuries. I’m confident that he’ll provide a steadying presence for our younger players and help guide them through the ups and downs of a long season. On the field, we’re hoping to see him bring some of that pop that made him such a feared hitter throughout his career.”

General Manager Mike Simon also commented on the signing, with his trademark mix of humor and candor. “Look, we needed to make a move. Losing Manobu was a huge blow to our team and our fans—especially to the silent majority of 'G.G.' out there. And let’s face it, adding a piece of eye candy like Ernest to the roster isn’t going to hurt in that department either. But all jokes aside, we believe McBride still has plenty left in the tank, and we’re excited to see what he can do in a Wolves uniform this year.”

McBride will join the team immediately, and the Wolves are hopeful that his presence will help stabilize the lineup as they push to turn their season around. With a career OPS of .947 and a reputation as a clubhouse leader, McBride’s signing is seen as a positive step in the right direction for a Wolves team looking to overcome early-season struggles.

As the season continues, fans can look forward to seeing Ernest McBride take the field and bring his veteran savvy to Madison, all while providing a much-needed boost both on and off the field.

Had another out for him, but withdrew it after I realized I was just being blinded from his history. He appears to be a shell of his former self and I ended up getting Ollier for nothing. McBride should still do well, though, and I can’t believe he was available so long.

Isn't he like Rudge? Someone where the ratings show an okay player but the stats are otherwise and it's a dramatic shift? that's really getting annoying.
