Galaxy Gas 2060.15 Valencia Blows Away Tropics in Season Opener

The stars opened the 2060 season played host to the Hawaii Tropics in front of a near sellout crowd of 49,839 fans and the Valencia faithful were not disappointed as the Stars won by a score of 11-2.

Valencia scored twice in the first inning on a rbi double by Miller Shed and a run-scoring single by Koray Kapkin. The Stars scored again in the third inning with a solo homer by Tim Bartlett. Valencia added three more in the fourth inning on rbi doubles by José Vargas and Qadir bin Gamal followed by a run-scoring single by Miller Shed. the lead increased to 7-0 in the fifth inning when Tim Bartlett hit his second solo dinger of the contest.

Hawaii got on the scoreboard in the top of the 6th inning when Mitch Wareham drove in a run with a single over the outstretched glove over shortstop. Valencia answered in the seventh with an additional three runs. Kenny Blackwell stroked a two-rbi double followed by a run scoring single by Koray Kapkin.

The teams closed out the scoring by exchanging a run apiece. Frank McMillan hit a solo shot for the Tropics while Mark Kimball hit a line drive single to score a run to account for the final score of 11-2.

Offensive standouts for Valencia were Tim Bartlett with his two homers and Koray Kapkin who went 3-3 while receiving two walks.

Juan García (1-0) earned the opening day win going 7.1 innings giving up 2 runs while allowing 6 runners to reach base. Gerardo Rea absorbed the loss allowing 6 runs in just over 3 innings.
