PP Reward- Farewell Tour

Post by ae37jr » Wed Jul 17, 2024 8:21 am

It's become common in sports these days for a player to announce that next season will be their last and do a retirement tour. I think that would be fun to do in the BBA. It could lead to a team news series where the player visits opposing parks(similar to Gerties Girls) and gets presents from various teams. It also ensures that a player will retire on his terms while playing with the team he spent most of his career with. Dong-Po Thum, Manubu Shimizu(when it's time) are outstanding examples of what I am thinking.

Of course there would probably have to be some rules attached to avoid teams using it as a loophole to get out of bad contracts. Maybe the player would have to be a certain age, be in clear decline, play X amount of seasons with team or GM(Ignacio Venegas played 9 years in TWC and 3 in BRK with me). Honestly I think we can just say the team has to release the player and pay the money. I don't think anyone would argue about that to ensure their legacy player retires rather than sign a minor league contract with another team. Anyways, that's just my random thought of the day.

Interesting idea. Writing a Gertie style tour of TN would be reward enough. Lot of PPT earned from writing that series.

The reward is being able to retire the player on your terms. You can't write a retirement tour story if you are not sure when player will retire. I know sometimes OOTP announces it in game, but it's very random.

Wish we had this for Joey Votto.

I like the idea. I’d make the parameters strict but truly retire the player. No release and still owe the money. Otherwise I’d never do it.

i think this is a pretty cool idea. of course would implement parameters for longevity with team, performance, and make sure that all owed money gets paid.

Convert money owed to deferred money a la Bobby Bonilla Day.

I would have loved to do this for Thim, who didn't announce until end of season.

May I suggest to address the bad contract issue that it can only be done on final season of a deal OR the team pays remaining years out of their bonus funds?

Plot twist: What if we were able to UN-retire a player?

Would have to cost an absurd amt of PPT but it would be cool to do, assuming they can still play at a decent level.

I feel like guys only retire from our league when they are utterly broken down.

Or randomly as prospects and they are added back into the game at times.

Or when they're the only other 1st-round draft pick you've been as excited about as you were when you drafted Richard Vernon. WHAAAA! 😁

As much as I can't get my head around PPT, I would love to apply them to forms of buyouts.

This is something to consider. Like Rudge should have retired. Older example: the Charles Puckett

I fully support this idea - would have used it on Dave Lee this season.

I submit 44 year old Angel Zalapa as the first to test this concept.

Don't worry, he's FA at the end of the year so I'm not getting out of any salary.

EDIT: I re-read Alan's original post and I realize I wouldn't be eligible because Zalapa played most of his career with Valencia.

I was just throwing an idea out. GB can make all the rules. Would have no problem if you wanted to retire zalapa. He deserves a farewell tour.

Looks like after the season. I wasn't sure if the game did it or Matt did it.
