Hometown Hero Jared gillstrom will not be back as manager of the crawdads in 2050.
The 55 year old has been heading up the team at the big league level for the last 3 seasons. After his stellar HOF playing career. the New orleans native returned to his hometown as the third base coach. After 10 season as the third base coach he was promoted to manager in 2057. In his 3 seasons he went 270-216 with 2 playoff appearances, the only blemish being this past season where they missed by just a single game.
He is probably not done with his managerial career, but he has made it clear he has no interest in coming back for another season in the Big Easy.
"Look, i had a lot of fun here. Some good tmes, including the landis win in 2051, something that eluded me in my playing career" Gilstrom said. But its time for this organization to go a different direction. Its time for someone else to have a chance here.
Its no secret Gillstrom and the Owner did not get along. Gilstrom - ever frustrated by lack of a defensive focus and the inability to bring in quality defenders in favor of marginal bats may have played a big role.
Now New Orleans will conduct an exaustive search for their next manager. Some good internal candidates exist.
