After coming off a probable playoff-squelching 4 game slide to San Fernando, the Stars travelled to Vancouver. Valencia desperately need to win or even sweep this series to have any chance whatsoever to make up some of that 4-game deficit to Bikini fot the final wild card slot with 12 games to go.
In the first four innings the game remained scoreless, but the Stars broke the ice in the top of the fifth inning when Habib bin Ameen hit a two-run homer over the left field wall. Koray Kapkin then drove in the third run on a fielder’s choice. The Mounties got one of the runs back in the bottom of the sixth when Raul Pena hit into a fielder’s choice of his own to make the score 3 to 1.
The dust no longer settled and the Stars scored two more in the visitors’ half of the seventh. The run production was done when Carlos Schumann hit a RBI single into the hole between first and second base followed by another single off the bat of Mark Kimball into sallow rightfield.
Vancouver finished the scoring in the bottom half of the 7th inning when Ramon Moreno hit a run-scoring single over first base with two outs.
Carlos Schumann, Mark Kimball and Habib bin Ameen each had two hits in the winning cause for the Stars.
Juan Garcia (13-13) gained the win while allowing 2 runs in 6.1 innings. Martin Roman notched his 36th save of the season. Sam Fisher (9-10) allowed 3 runs over 6 innings on his way to receiving the loss.
