Galaxy Gas 2059.44– Contract Talks – Markus O’Byrne

Post by DugoutDesperado » Thu Jul 04, 2024 10:23 am

With the 2059 season coming to a close and the chance at a post-season slipping away, the Valencia front office is looking at contracts and how things will fit going into 2060. One of the contracts that is up for grabs is that of the skipper Markus O’Byrne.

The 38 year-old manager is currently in the last year of is $200K per year contract. During the 2057 season he was in the dugout for the AAA squad in Mars where he led the Martins to a 56-88 record. In the spring of 2058 he wa promoted to the big league club where the squad finished 80-83 and barely missed the playoffs despite enduring through some key injuries during the end of the season.

The 2059 season seemed to show some more signs of promised until August rolled around and the team seemed to coast its way to the outside looking into a chance of playing in October. To date, Markus’ big-league record is standing at 150-164. Initial reports are that he is seeking a 5-year contract worth $1.375M per year.

One fan stated, “Hey. Markus has us on the cusp of being in the playoffs and $1.4M is the going rate for many of the average managers in the league.”

On the other side of the coin another fan tweeted, “How is he asking for that much of an increase? Doesn’t he realize that he is 16-31 in one-run games so far this season? That is just 2 fewer losses than Nashville has overall for the entire season! “

“It is no secret that he is easy going and gets along with almost everyone in the clubhouse but that is not what puts the cheeks in the seats,” one source close to the front office was quoted.

His ratings are decent when it comes to mechanics and development as Markus grades out as Good or better on almost every aspect of managing. Whether or not the Stars not being able to get over the playoff hump is due to the coaching, the players on the field or just lady luck being a fickle temptress is yet to be determined.

The Stars’ faithful will be staying tuned for the conclusion of this episode for sure.
