59.02 Quick Turnaround in Omaha

Post by handaspencer » Mon Jun 17, 2024 12:29 pm

Things have been a little on the quiet side in Omaha the past few weeks externally but internally there has been a lot of activity and changes. On June 15 Omaha was sitting at 27-43 next to last in the Heartland and the season appeared to be coming off the rails. Since June 15 Omaha has gone 22-15 with a +34 run differential. Omaha also finds itself sitting 4th in the Heartland and only 1 game out of 3rd place in the Heartland. July alone Omaha is 16-7 and the team is playing great baseball.

Must be the new GM making a bunch of changes and pulling all the right strings right? GM Spencer said absolutely not give all the credit to this clubhouse and this club putting in the extra hours getting better. The truth of the matter is from a front office standpoint we have done very little. When you take over during a season your a little more landlocked on what you can do. We have made a few tweaks but nothing major to this squad. I am just happy for this squad, it appears we have got our confidence back as a club and when we step onto the field we believe we can win again.

Luis Mendoza has caught fire for the Cylclones the month of July. He is hitting .316 with 7 HR and 22 RBI. It just seems like when we needed a big hot Mendoza just continues to deliver for us. Also Jorge Delgado has had a great month. He is hitting .329 with 4 HR and 11 RBI in July. Our pitching staff has been really good as well. Takashi Nakamura has started 5 games this month and he is 3-0 with a 3.38 ERA. Arturo Meza has also been very strong in his 4 starts. Dave Ferrell has been dynamic out of the bullpen. He has earned 4 wins this month and along with 4 saves. Its so reassuring to have someone like Farrell to close out games for us Manager Negrete said.

We are hoping we can continue to gain momentum as we head into August and close out this season. One of the keys for us this season is we have been able to win games on the road. We definitely have identified the areas where we need to improve but its encouraging to us that despite the known areas of improvement we have been winning. There is some talent in Omaha GM Spencer said we just have to get it shined up and this is a very good start.
