WHIV 2059.13- My Solution Is To Do Nothing

Post by recte44 » Fri May 17, 2024 2:25 pm

The Turning Points idea was cool- I just don't have the personal discipline to do it every sim. What happens is I miss one sim, then I get anxiety, and then another sim goes by and then it seems insurmountable. This is the same cycle that kept happening to me back in my school days, especially in college. I'd miss one class, then another, then find out I missed a quiz that was like 20% of my grade, and then I'd just stop going. Back in those days I dealt with a lot of issues by simply choosing to not deal with them. Looking back, I can't see where in my head I could justify that ignoring a problem would solve it. Still, that was my modus operandi.

What does that have to do with the Las Vegas Hustlers? For starters, I had to explain why I'm not going to do the Turning Points style news anymore. Whew, that feels better. Secondly, though I referred heavily to "those days" when it comes to not facing problems head on, the truth is I still do this sometimes. I'm doing it right now, as we speak. With what, you might ask? Well, the Las Vegas Hustlers defense is problematic and it's contributing heavily to some pretty horrible pitching numbers. What am I doing about it? I'm choosing to ignore the problem.

I'm not going to acknowledge that shortstop is a huge problem. Maybe it'll get better by itself??

I'm just going to completely look the other way when it comes to Pedro Huerta's defense in left field. He's hitting so well, it's easy to ignore.

Let's be serious. Other than center field and catcher, the Hustlers have some serious defensive problems.

I have a plan, though. I'll give it zero thought. There is no problem. Everything is fine. Eventually, I'll tell myself, things will get better on their own. I mean, I have a long track record of these kind of things working themselves out when I ignore them. Right?

I wouldn’t worry about Lloyd at 3B either. So that’s three positions!!

I gulped when I saw Randy Wright at SS. Didn't remember him being a capable SS. But he bumped from 7 to 9 range since last season. That's pretty helpful. You don't see that often.

The Vegas offense is on fire. But what happens when they stop hitting?

It wasn't even a dev lab program! There's nothing that gets me more jealous than a range bump. Feels like my guys only lump in that category. I know Ron looked it up a couple seasons ago when I said this and called out I had a few range bumpers but they were all lower level minor league guys going from like 4 to 5 or at positions it doesn't matter. What you really want are these top end guys getting up to 9.

Yes. Yes they do. What you did is shifted the trademarked Matt "Just Blow it All Up!" Discord announcement to very early this year (April). Results thus far are tracking as expected after that. The trick is to let Vegas play just good enough that you hold up on the trademarked move until at least June so your boost is minimized.

Exactly. The thing about sims is they have the despicable ability to force judgements based off of seven days out of a long season. I really fight those urges often.

What do doctors call it, watchful waiting? I feel the same way about some of my team's weaknesses.

“OMFG!! This guy sucks! Just 2 hits in the Sim? He’s headed to AAA”
“But, those ratings and intangibles! He will most definitely light up.”
“Ok, brain…”
“Just one more Sim. See if he performs up to his numbers.”
“Fine, brain. One more Sim. I mean it this time!”
