Rumors of Suitors Swirl in Detritus of Seattle Season

October 19, 2056

After a historically egregious 55-win season that has seen everyone from the top down standing on eggshells and waiting for the axe to fall, and with recent news that longtime GM Nathan Egan is already moving out, rumors now suggest that even the team’s ownership is in question.

“There’s a lot of money looking to be spent,” a team financial insider said of the apparently fast-moving business dealings. “And it’s not like the team’s value has risen in any appreciable way over the past few seasons. Pennypacker (the team’s current owner, Jack Pennypacker) isn’t getting any younger. So it all adds up.”

“LET THEM FIGURE IT OUT ON THEIR OWN”

Pennypacker is 72 years old, and recently noted that he had no intention of passing his wealth to family members, noting that he didn’t want to spoil them with kindness. “The kids these days are too soft as it is. Not like my day when I had to grind it out all on my own. I figure it’s best in the long run to let them figure it out on their own.”

Pennypacker has been the team’s owner since 2030 when his father, H.E. Pennypacker, passed away and left the team to him.
No word on what he would do with the proceeds from such a sale, but the word is that the offer is substantial, and somewhat startling in nature, especially given the destruction that the team has seen to the P&L statement over the past cycle.

AS NEWS ROCKS AREA, BUYERS LINING UP TO SPEND SILLY MONEY.

In retrospect it’s not too surprising to hear, but with an apparent offer on the table, other sharks are apparently lining up. While the conversation is moving quickly, our source says there are three separate offers being developed, and that, if accepted, any of the three might well mean that the club would relocate elsewhere.

It’s news that rankles some long-term fans of a team that has seen moments of being BBA royalty – albeit that time has been gone for some time. Fan clubs mustered a quick picket line protest at the team’s otherwise barren ticket office, and as they marched word began to filter through the protesters and the candidates for ownership included an Energy consortium from the Far East, at least one member of the modern technology phalanx, and an unnamed political family from the West Coast.

Though speculation abounds, no word is available from trusted sources on specific names. But the dollars are apparently mind-boggling, as social media is beginning to break:

SEA-SALE-TWEET.JPG

“It’s totally crazy the kinds of cash being talked about. Those kinds of numbers really limit the candidate pool, but don't be surprised if more groups throw their hats in the ring. People like this got more than they could spend in a hundred-thousand lives.”

UPDATES SOON?

While the team itself has been ilent-say on the ituation-say, this independent rag has been able to make several contacts from within the team and around the league who we expect will be able to keep us abreast of new action as they occur, so we’ll update as rapidly as practical.
