Veteran Could Be With Team Through Age 39
July 25, 2055

“Carlos is thrilled,” said agent Bertam “Squirty Bertie” Myers. “This is a deal that gives him a lot of flexibility in the off-season. We’ll sit down in October and make decisions going forward based on what we think the market might bear and whether he wins that award or not, and decide what our best direction is. Until then, my 30% of the signing bonus will go a long way toward paying off the Jacuzzi.”
Flores (9-3, 3.27, 72 FIP-) is having a resurgent season, having been named to the All-Star team, and has emerged as the team’s stopper at the top of the rotation.
“We need to score more runs behind him,” said Gabriel Campos, his pitching coach.
Given Flores’ age, the deal includes provisions that make the last two seasons at the privilege of the team.
“Probably the team most worried about this deal is Atlantic City,” Said Cam Cameron, sports editor of the Sacramento Gazette-Times. “They own half of the guy’s salary next year. I’m sure they were hoping it would be a one-season decision and that Flores would opt out.”
At Flores’ current performance, this, of course, is still a possibility.
But for now, we’re of the understanding that Squirty Bertie is arranging a big party at his high-rise condo to celebrate the deal.
Last one into the Jacuzzi is a rotten egg.
