Batter of the Month

Ted Sale
Sale wins our batter of the month award for the 3rd time this season. Sale, clearly our best offensive player, hit .337/.412/.574 in the month of July with 6 homeruns and 24 runs batted in. He led the team in each of those categories listed and was tied for the team lead in doubles with 6 and led the team in hits with 34 and walks with 12. He was second on the team in runs scored with 15. On the season, Sale is batting .323/.393/.565 with 25 homeruns and 72 RBIs.
Pitcher of the Month

Sam Morton, Pedro Martinez, Darryl Dowdle, and Alfredo Alvarez
Our bullpen ranks #1 in the Frick League, and it is months like this that only help solidify that #1 spot. All 4 of these guys are in the bullpen, and these guys combined to appear in 20 games this month, record 21.2 innings pitched, and allowed just 2 UNEARNED runs. Thus, these 4 guys combined for an ERA of 0.00 in July, allowed just 14 hits and walked only 3 batters for a WHIP below 1.000. The quartet struck out 20. Throw in the normal dominance of our closer Rob Dibble, and any team that trails the Surfers after 6 innings is pretty much screwed!
AAA Player of the Month

Ramon Ayala
19 year old Ramon Ayala continues his march up the ranks towards the big leagues. The AI had him on our staff when the season started. We dropped him down to Double-A where he was dominant. We've since called him up to AAA where he continues to be great. In July, Ayala started 6 games, went 5-1 with a 1.07 ERA. In 50.2 innings pitched, Ayala allowed 32 hits, 2 walks, and struck out 44 batters. It is possible that Ayala may see a few big league starts when rosters expand in September.
AA Player of the Month

Byung-Ryu "B.R." Poc
Poc tore up Double-A pitching in July, recording 38 hits in 105 at-bats for a stat line of .362/.400/.524 with 2 homeruns and 22 runs batted in. He also struck out just 8 times in the month, the 2nd fewest on the team in July.
A Player of the Month

Marcos "Duck" Latta
The Duck hit .423/.511/.568 in July with 3 homeruns and 28 runs batted in. Latta's bat is helping lead the Surfers Single-A affiliate in Tombstone, Arizone to a 73-38 record, which is tied for the 2nd best record in Single-A.
