The San Antonio Outlaws fought off the Long Beach Surfers in a back and forth affair to win the 2044 Landis Memorial Trophy 4 games to 3. In what may go down as the best, most hard fought series in recent memory with both teams laying everything on the line. The Outlaws were able to overcome home field advantage for Long Beach, and some truly odd plays in a 5-1 Game 7 victory.
Game 7 Starter, Julio Alicea, was focused before the game and made sure to tell everyone in the bullpen warming up that he would make up for his game 3 disaster and he surely did. 8 Innings of 1 Run ball with 4 K's was enough to keep the potent Long Beach bats silent for the night. "My Cutter and Splitter were really working for me tonight and I can't say enough about the game "Mookie" (C Octavio Moreno) called a hell of a game. I knew I had to redeem my self from my game 2 performance and I am grateful that I did" SP Julio Alicea said during the press conference.
Series MVP, RF Pedro Bustamante, could not contain his happiness as teammates and coaches alike sprayed champagne from one end of the locker room to the other. "This is the reason to you play this game, to fight against the best of the best and see who is standing at the end. Well this time it was us and I will savor this for the rest of my life".
Manager Cameron Fookes sat back and just soaked it all in as he watched his team celebrate their championship. "I cannot tell you how proud I am of these guys. I have had the privilege of coaching some of the best guys I have ever seen on a ballfield and I want to thank GM Calvaruso for believing in me and giving me this opportunity".
GM Calvaruso, with a grin from ear to ear, walked around and hugged all his players and coaches and thanked them for a great season. "These seasons don't come around every day so it is important to savor them when they do. This team played with heart and did not allow themselves to get down when things didn't go their way".
So after some time to celebrate it will be time to rest and recuperate for the players, and time for coaches to start making evaluations, and time for GM Calvaruso to see what magic he can pull out of his ass for next season.
