Tomás Durán
Durán slashed .304/.368/.529, frequently from the lead-off spot in the lineup. In a Chicago season marked by offensive frustration and season-long slumps by such stars as 1B Mark Simpson and OF Hao Hang, the 22-year-old switch-hitting Durán was a consistent bright spot.
“Tomás was someone I never had to worry about – day or night, road or home, the man can hit,” said Manager Julian Negrete.
Durán led the team in wOBA (.361) and Runs Created per 27 Outs (6.7) and OBP, and second in batting average to outfielder José Figueroa (.314).
“We accomplished a lot this year, and I was glad to contribute to that,” Durán said. “I think the award is a nice little validation of that from the team.”
