I will say I put a pretty big hot take out there and even though the hot takes aren't popular and are controversial I do want to point out there not bias. I have respect for all the GMs in this league and regardless of which team it regarded, id have thrown it out.

I wouldn't worry too much about Justin's prediction, Nigel. He's been wrong before with his hot takes :P

Sometimes it's not that he's wrong, but a season ahead of his time.

Between thinking Mark Simpson is not a first baseman, and that Sergio Maldonado is the one who got the wichita extension makes me think that this might have been an AFBI performance from Niles...

Also running the favorite toy tools on Tai Hoi Wie, here is what you come up with:

Hits: 2659
Doubles: 410
Triples: 62
Home Runs: 564
RBI: 1556
Runs: 1896
Walks: 2035
WAR: 67-68 (favorite toy does not do decimals)

Those totals should make for some interesting discussion.

I was talking with Joe about Wie and i broke out Ron's player similarity spreadsheet. Here is what i found based on Wie's career stats right now:

Norm Cash 1B 1958 1974 906.8
Dick Allen 1B 1963 1977 898.1
Gil Hodges 1B 1943 1963 874.1
Prince Fielder 1B 2005 2016 862.7
Frank Howard OF 1958 1973 859.6
Derrek Lee 1B 1997 2011 858.8
Kent Hrbek 1B 1981 1994 856.8
Mark Teixeira 1B 2003 2016 855.5
Rocky Colavito OF 1955 1968 853.6
Mo Vaughn 1B 1991 2003 853.3

A slew of Hall of Very Good guys (and you can argue higher in the case of allen and hodges), which makes sense given where he is at his career. If you project out using Favorite Toy (dropping AVG by 7 points and SLG by 10 to account for aging), you come up with this list:

Jim Thome 1B 1991 2012 829.7
Reggie Jackson OF 1967 1987 824.0
Ernie Banks 1B 1953 1971 820.6
Fred McGriff 1B 1986 2004 813.4
Gary Sheffield OF 1988 2009 802.7
Rafael Palmeiro 1B 1986 2005 800.7
Willie McCovey 1B 1959 1980 797.7
Mel Ott OF 1926 1947 790.3
Mickey Mantle OF 1951 1968 785.3
Frank Robinson OF 1956 1976 784.1
Harmon Killebrew 1B 1954 1975 781.3
Frank Thomas 1B 1990 2008 770.6
Ken Griffey OF 1989 2010 769.0
Mike Schmidt 3B 1972 1989 766.3
Sammy Sosa OF 1989 2007 762.7
David Ortiz 1B 1997 2016 755.8
Carlos Beltran OF 1998 2017 750.0
Eddie Mathews 3B 1952 1968 749.7
Billy Williams OF 1959 1976 737.0
Jimmie Foxx 1B 1925 1945 733.7

Jim Thome at the plate (wie has a better glove) is pretty much who i picture when i think of Wie so that makes sense (joe said 110% of fred mcgriff before seeing the list, which fits as well).

Just to end any speculation, California will not, in fact, be offering Sergio Maldonado a six year/nine figure extension. Unless, as the oracle of Sacramento foretells, he is the Landis MVP in our epic run to the 2042 title.

Life is a bit more beautiful when time is measured by the half inning rather than the half hour.
