2001 Draft Update
Louisville selected Devin Clark, third baseman out of the High School All Star League today with the #4 overall pick in the draft. GM Rob Starke commented by phone "We are very excited that Devin was there at #4. We had him ranked higher on our board and didn't hesitate to draft him once he fell to us. This is a guy who is willing to put in the work to be a star in this league and Louisville is proud to add him to the organization." Clark is an all star and helped his club to a championship.
Reports are that Clark still may consider playing college ball and could be a signing risk for the team. Despite that, the club must feel they can sign the talented hitter, who projects as a all around threat with the bat and great patience at the plate. The club was also linked to Clark's teammate from the IBM Pros Alberto Guzman who went first overall and pitcher Clarence Murray

A lot of talent, but a LONG way to go.

Re: 2001 Draft Update
If Murray had gone one we were picking Clark. If he hits those potential numbers he will be immense, good work ethic and not too greedy what's not to love! Yeah he has a way to go but we bottom dwellers can afford to wait

That is indeed the game. Pretty good pick, though.robster49 wrote:Louisville has plenty of time to wait.
Re: 2001 Draft Update
I probably would have went Ramos or Garland for that pick. I wasn't high on Clark for some reason. I just got the sense he wasn't going to develop. Or that he was overrated. I think Garland and Guzman will be the best bats out of the top 10. I could be wrong. Won't be the first time. In the famous words of Lance Berkman.
Re: 2001 Draft Update
I was really mixed up on who to take if Clark wasn't there. His 3B eligibility, despite average defense, made him attractive. I had Garland rated highly but really was desperate for pitching as well. I'm hoping that Clark can develop into his potential even if it's a few years down the road.
First step is signing him of course.

Re: 2001 Draft Update
Looks very solid, but intelligence is low and that could hinder development.

Re: 2001 Draft Update
I'll have to think about putting some points on his intelligence or he may take too long to develop.
