Your 2040 Position Players
Despite having a large number of non-roster invitee’s in camp the Chariot Archer’s spring went well. Their 19 wins was the most in the UMEBA and that was achieved with a constant rotation of players in the games. The biggest blow came on the final game before Spring Training finished, star outfielder Adrian Young was involved in a collision while running the bases and tore his cruciate ligament putting him out for the entire 2040 season.
This will leave 30-yr-old Aubrey Anderson, 32-yr-old Miguel Gill and 30-yr-old Elijah Curry as the starting outfielders for 2040. Anderson last year split his time between RF (97 games) and CF (55 games) hitting .293 with 34 HR & 106 RBI, while Curry made 142 of his 144 appearances in LF hitting .328 with 25 HR & 105 RBI, Gil was the main backup outfielder last year who made 41 appearances in CF hitting .278.
30-yr-old Xie-li luo will remain as backup catcher, he only allowed one passed ball in 2039 but only threw runners out at a 20% clip. 29-yr-old Bungay Martin will be the starting catcher, he is up from Triple-A Nairobi where in 107 starts last year he allowed seven passed balls, managed to throw nearly 22% of runners out but hit .288 with the bat with nine homers.
The starting infield will be as it finished last year 32-yr-old Mauro Garcia at First (2039: 154 games, .279 with 35 homers & 114 RBI), 32-yr-old Barney Everhart at Second (2039: 90 games, .297 with six homers & 33 RBI), 31-yr=old Felix Arrojo at Third (2039: 107 games, .263 with 12 homers & 51 RBI). At Shortstop late-season pickup 31-yr-old George Bluth will continue (2039: 43 games, .281, 3 homers & 15 RBI).
27-yr-old Nathan Naylor will continue to be the main DH (2039: 134 games, .262 with 17 homer & 59 RBI). 30-yr-old Christian Baudouin, 31-yr-old Piero Richelmi and 28-yr-old Rio North will remain the infield backups. 28-yr-old Bob Hernandez will be the backup corner outfielder while promoted from Nairobi to be the second OF backup is 28-yr-old Higino Ocha
Cairo certainly has the look of an aging behemoth desperate for one more shot at the big time, if they don’t have a good April a number of them could be looking for a new job as the rebuild process could begin earlier than they would like.
