Tater Talk: 2039.01 – Sweet Potato! Lederer Hired as New Boise GM
In what was expected to be a pivotal off-season for the Boise Spuds, team owner Francis Nephi Grigg IV quickly found his club's replacement for recently-resigned general manager Jeff Palin in Joe Lederer, most recently of the UMEBA's Bucharest Balauri. A relatively-unknown, Lederer had only just joined Bucharest a month ago but had made quite a splash in a short amount of time. "I liked what Lederer was planning on doing in the UMEBA," Grigg told reporters. "We had information that Lederer took the job in Bucharest as stepping stone to the BBA and we didn't want a rival club jumping at the opportunity to hire him."
Lederer, fighting back tears, made a statement on Baseball News Network via conference call: "It's a dream come true, it really is. First, I want to thank the Balauri ownership in taking a chance on me. And to all the fans who welcomed me with open arms, I wish your club the very best. But this is the BBA, the crème de la crème. I couldn't pass up the chance to help guide the Spuds into a bright, new future. I'm ready to take Boise into a bright, new future and I promise to give this organization everything I have."
With free agency talks already taking place around the league, Lederer will have to work quickly to deliver on his promise. The Spuds have the largest free agency budget available in the entire BBA, so look for a few moves to fill organizational holes, if not surround the Boise's superstar centerfielder Dennis French with much needed help. It is uncertain who Lederer plans on targeting at this time, but it is expected a flurry of moves will be announced in the coming weeks leading up to the Winter Meetings.

It's quite remarkable considering his youth, but wouldn't you know it, his contract -- yes, the very one he signed when drafted -- says he can't be traded to Wichita. What are the odds that he and his agent would make such demands?!

I'm pretty sure if we did a BBA trade value ranking that French would be at the top of the list.
