Rookie League Plano Wildcats

It's not a pretty sight, but there's at least one player worth mentioning.

Top prospect:

Mike Conway

Conway, who was just drafted, has a long way to go just to be adequate. He was slightly below average last year, and he's very, very raw. The thing is, he's a tremendous relief prospect who might get converted into a starter at some point, and he has tremendous sink on his pitches, leading to him being an extreme groundballer. We're just hoping that he's got it all together by next year.


Notables:

Billy Robertson

Good intangibles, good defensively, good speed, has improved his potential with the bat this year. However, he's already getting a righty platoon factor - perhaps Marquette should invest in a coach that just teaches people how to hit righthanded pitching! He's just 19 years old, so maybe he'll make it, but right now he's just marginal.

Cameron Bennett

Way too old and advanced for the level; he should be in A ball at least, if not AA. Throws in the low 90s, but he'll have to develop an out pitch to make it anywhere.

Juan Gomez

Blasted Rookie League last year, but was way too old and advanced for the level, and he's just a marginal prospect at best. Maybe he'll improve if and when he gets moved up.


Deep Sleepers:

Kyle Hughes

Will have to get a clue to really make it, but he was just barely passable last year in his first professional season.

Carlos Montalvo

Right now, too raw and too old to even consider a real prospect; however, he was just drafted. He should be put in High-A next year to see if he can develop some command.
