NBA Playoffs
It's like watching grass grow.
Celtics play in Boston Sunday and then Tuesday.
Lucky to win both games.
The off 'til Friday?
Bring back the old days.
Back to back at home
Travel day
Three in a row on the road
Travel day
Two final game at home.
7 games, 9 days.

Re: NBA Playoffs
I am in 100% agreement. In addition to MLB, I'm a college football/basketball/baseball fan, MLS (and soccer in general), and NFL. I feel like I respect NHL more than NBA, but I can't even watch the playoffs in hockey (what can I say...I'm from the south). I used to be able to watch NBA playoffs, but they just go on forever. And NHL and NBA both have like 60% of the teams in the league make the playoffs...

The NBA and NHL playoffs are brutal.

Re: NBA Playoffs
I'd rather watch ANY of the NBA playoff games than any regular season MLB game.
Then again, I'm a huge basketball fan (just won both of my fantasy leagues for the second consecutive year).

Re: NBA Playoffs
Hilarious.
Here's the thing - during the playoffs, teams play their asses off. Regular season NBA is, well, it's questionable at best.
However, being a real basketball fan, I like to see the best basketball players, and that's the NBA. I'm not a big college basketball fan because I'm watching subpar play and a bunch of 62-60 games which don't mean beans to me. They didn't even convert me as a Terp in 2002, and that's saying something since I was actually ATTENDING Maryland at the time.
That said, I'd rather watch ONE Miami Heat game than any number of college games. Or one Chicago Bulls game, regular season or otherwise - they're my team and have been since my youth (and I'm talking the 80s, not the 90s. Hell, I bought an ancient book on great point guards just so I could read about Norm Van Lear).
I'm just cursed to be living in Washington, DC...where all I can do is see the OTHER team play well.

Re: NBA Playoffs
I never got in to the NBA and my wife refused to watch it being a former player in HS (she was recruited for D2 college but didn't go). She likes college ball better and her family are huge Marquette Warrior (bleh to the Golden Shower, er Eagles) fans.

Re: NBA Playoffs
That's cool. I just don't prefer the style of play in the NBA (mostly clear out for the 1-on-1 matchup with some pick-and-rolls thrown in). A well executed play by a college team with a lot of passing and motion that creates a backdoor cut or open 3 is more exciting to me.aaronweiner wrote:Hilarious. Here's the thing - during the playoffs, teams play their asses off. Re: NBA Playoffs
Fundamentals, schmudamentals. Give me a full court Dwayne Wade pass with a LeBron layup over a well-executed layup over the other team's 6' 8" center any day of the week.
Re: NBA Playoffs
Speaking off, that transition pass where LeBron went through his legs then back behind his back and got a pass off to a sprinting Wade for a dunk as Lebron was falling down was unreal. And I hate the Heat.aaronweiner wrote:Fundamentals, schmudamentals. Re: NBA Playoffs
Lots of things hamper the NBA, most of them have been covered here. The season is too long, too many teams make the playoffs, etc. But it is absolutely the purest form of the game, with the best players in the world. The NCAA game is the most exciting, how could it not be with the tournament, but part of the excitement is the fact that 18-22 year old kids make mistakes that 25-35 year old professionals usually do not, and that can lead to VCU knocking off Kansas or whichever upset you would like to pick.
Ocassionally you see the 8 seed knock off the 1, or 7 knock off the 2, but rarely do the NBA finals feature someone other than the top seeds. That is because the top players play defense, make the right passes, and rarely miss open shots. Some people find this boring, but don't call it anything other than basketball at its highest level.
Me personally, I would rather watch a weekend of the NCAA tournament than the NBA playoffs but fortunately because of the previously-mentioned long season I don't have to choose. I also hate parody, I'm rooting for Lakers/Bulls all the way as Phil Jackson tries to wrap up another three-peat against the Bulls. You couldn't write a better script.
