Chris, I believe 183 days = 1 year.

Yes, this is illegal. In this case perhaps ignorance is an excuse, but the extension will have to be rolled back.

Isn't this extension illegal?

From the Constitution

"One concrete contract rule strictly enforced is that any player with less than 5 years of ML service time will not be allowed to sign a contract extension of longer than 3 seasons. Additionally, any player with less than 5 years of ML service time may not be tendered an extension of longer than 3 seasons. Any contract found violating this rule will be nullified and will have to be renegotiated to fit within this rule. Teams that violate this rule will be penalized $10 million from their Bonus Funds."
Glad this came up because I have a couple of guys I'm looking at signing to extensions and was meaning to look this rule up....

Also, how many days are in a year of ML service time? Wondering if I wait if I'll be able to negotiate longer extensions on my guys or if that 5 years will never come up this season.....

Well service time is on every player's page, isn't it? And so far, once the site is updated, there will have been 30 days of service time. So if a player has more than 4 years & 30 days of service time once the site is updated, you'll be able to extend them this season.

A player won't gain that 5th year until he's passed the number of days required (I think it's somewhere around 170, and 183 is the total number of days in a season) and the season rolls over. So a player with 4 years, 30 days right now; will have 4 years, 183 days at the end of the season. Once the Landis is over and the baseball calendar rolls to 2031, that player will have 5 years, 0 days.

With the Wilfer signing, I'm sure he was asking for those 6 years. Robertson has been asking for 6 years in an extension since he passed 2 years of service, and I have had a hard time signing him to a shorter, multi-year deal that I like.

You'll be able to sign him sometime next year.

Sanderson didn't get to 300 saves as quick as I had hoped. Needs 453 more to tie Egan, which at his career average (so far) of saves/year would require him to pitch until he is 39.

I'm definitely pessimistic now. The whole reason I thought he had a chance was because he started so early (19 year old rookie season), but for some reason despite our success as a team throughout his career (this being his 9th season), for some reason he's never racked up saves at a high rate. I feel like I'm doing him a disservice somehow.

Yes - an oversight. I asked him what he wanted and submitted as he's one of the players I want to keep on the team. I didn't remember about the extension rule. Throw myself at the mercy of the court, otherwise, our financial woes get deeper

Well, when you go into the 9th with a lead greater than 3 runs most of the time....

Run of the mill beatings for Indy  but our AA team did manage a 24-4 win over Medicine Hat. Only 19 hits and two homers but maybe seven SB's helped lol
