TOP PROSPECT GETTING FEET WET IN OGDEN
June 17, 2063 -- Marcos Cortez, a 19-year-old infielder from Venezuela, showed up in Ogden with direct orders. Pinch run, pinch hit, and get used to being in the US for a few weeks, then we'll see where it goes. Until then, he'd been playing ball in the team's international complex since 2060 when he'd been signed. But playing well enough that he'd been tagged as the team's top prospect, and the BBA's #8.
His first two appearances fit the basic criteria, zero plate appearances while serving as late inning replacements. Then he started at 1B and went hitless in two at bats, before making his first start at 2B. The results were eyeball shattering, 4-for-5 with a pair of singles, a double, and a triple, good for four RBI. He also made two errors, but we'll gloss over those for the moment. On the season he's hitting .500/.500/.875 in a limited 8 AB. Not bad for the kid.
"I think I hit it pretty good," said Cortez through a language zot device that had been furnished as part of his contract.
With Cortez coming out of the IC, the club has already noted that they intend to keep a tight rein on his reps for the first half of the R-ball season to see what his numbers will look like, but if the numbers keep numbering, look for him to have more time on the field than not.
