Sacramento, California-

Hawaii 8 Sacramento 6- Saturday, April 28, 2063

WP- Jose ‘Mr. Reliable’ Valle (2-0)

LP- Joe King (4-1)

Attendance- 64,240 at The Basilica at Muskrat Slough

The Hawaii Tropics hold on for the win in the series opener but lose SS Carlos Schumann to a broken foot for three weeks. Schumann injured himself running out a grounder and landed on the first base bag awkwardly causing him to sprawl out on the ground withing in pain. He was replaced in the game by Mitch Wareham at short. Wareham was 1 for 3 with a walk and scored a couple of runs. Jose Ordonez drove in a couple of runs while going 1 for 4 with a walk. Eric Owens is beginning to show signs of coming out if his season long slump with two doubles and an RBI.

Daniel Thornton gave the Tropics 4.2 innings allowing three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two batters. Jose ‘Mr. Reliable’ Valle pitched 2.1 scoreless innings allowing just a hit with a K to pick up the win. Harry Edwards earned a cheap one out save for his 2nd of the season.

Sacramento 6 Hawaii 5 (10 innings)- Sunday, April 29, 2063

Attendance- 54,705 at The Basilica at Muskrat Slough

The Mad Popes steal the collection plate from Hawaii with three late runs and win in extras. Sacramento tied the game with two runs off Trops reliever Utkan Gocek in the 9th to tie the game 5-5. Then M’opes SS Jorge Reyes hits a two out homer to walk it off in extras off Bill Phillips.

John Harris and Vicente ‘Yogi’ Martinez each homered for Hawaii. Harris had a two-run blast in the 5th inning and Martinez hit a solo shot in the 6th for his 10th.

Sacramento 7 Hawaii 2- Monday, April 30, 2063

WP- Mario Reyes (3-2)

LP- Martin ‘Lumps’ Garcia (1-1)

Save- Pedro Gonzales (1)

Time: 3:30

Attendance- 50,468 at The Basilica at Muskrat Slough

The Mad Popes scored three runs off Trops starter Martin Garcia in the 1st inning and cruise to an easy win. Garcia gave up four runs, two earned, on six hits and three walks. He struck out four in 3.1 innings in the loss and falls to 1-1. Harry Edwards took a hit allowing two runs on three hits and a walk with a K in 2/3 of an inning.

Carlos Sanchez was 2 for 4 with a double (9) and an RBI. SS Julian Rivera has filled in well at the plate for Carlos Schumann and was 1 for 2 with an RBI double (2).

Sacramento wins the series 2-1.



“We lost Schumann with a broken bone in his foot in Game 1. It hurts more ways than one.”, said Hawaii Manager Amato Cruz.
