2063.09: Rummaging Bears - Outfielders

3/7/2063

How well are our spring campers' picnic baskets secured?

Sure-Fire Locks
LF Rafael Marquis, CF Sonny Bigalow, RF Tommy Harrison, LF Keith Tims

Here's the starting outfield plus DH. Marquis doesn't have a scouting report that blows you away but he's good defensively in left and in essentially one full season's worth of career ABs he has 38 home runs and a .275/.346/.526 triple slash. Bigalow might never go north of the Mendoza line again but he walks enough and plays elite defense. Harrison is playing under his post-arb contract extension now and keeps chugging along. Tims will normally DH but also start games at first base; he'll only serve as a backup outfielder when the corner guys are tired.

Near Locks
LF Eric Wagner, LF Miguel Lussier

If SFB sticks with six infielders all six of the above outfielders can make the Opening Day roster, and Tims is a quasi-outfielder since he'll play just as much first base. These two players were both acquired via trade in the last year. Wagner gives us a left-handed bench bat to use as a pinch hitter and pinch runner. Lussier is the more talented and young player but disappointed in 2062. There's still a little untapped potential if his crappy intangibles allow for the development. Lussier will only start against LHP.

Trying to Break-In
RF Kit Markoulides, LF Daniel Throsby, CF Jim Sitton

The slow developmental path for Throsby and Markoulides is nearing its end and neither is quite up to par to play in the BBA yet. Markoulides is closer ratings-wise but performance in AAA will be critical for each player. With so many of the starting outfielders batting left-handed there's obvious opportunity for them to debut as platoon players. Sitton's development has been more steady and he looks like a capable BBA center fielder now but he'll benefit from more AAA seasoning too. Fun fact: Jim Sitton is from the same Chicago south suburb as Pope Leo XIV.

Breaking in the Back Door
LF Harrison Dundon, LF Stephen Moorhouse

Dundon possesses the superior talent of these two players but he's not on the secondary roster yet. He might have to go to AA to begin 2063 because of all the prospects listed above who need to be in AAA. I think Dundon could hit BBA pitching now but we can afford to be patient. Unlike all the other young outfielders in his cohort he actually bats left-handed. Moorhouse gets a mention because he's now on the 40-man roster. I just felt like his 8 potential contact would draw attention in the rule 5. He's more of a first baseman than outfielder and will be challenged with AA to begin the season.
